WTF Australia??

Guess what natural disaster is currently rampaging across the top half of New South Wales?

Go on, guess!

Did you guess flood? A gold star for you.

Now guess what the latest threat from the fires down in Victoria is?

Contamination of Melbourne's very marginal water supplies.

Oh Australia, you are so hilarious!

An update post on the Victorian fires later tonight, and for anyone wondering when the plague of locusts is going to descend, that was last November.

At least Donald Horne was being ironic ...

Will I get smacked on the head with a book if I ask who Donald Horne is?

You'll be smacked on the head by one of the iconic Australian books, The Lucky Country, by Donald Horne, former editor of The Bulletin.

What do they teach you in schools here??

The Usual. You know Shakespeare, To Kill a Mocking bird.

Not much Australian literature in high school, but we were encouraged to read plenty of stories written by Australian authors in primary school, although I think that has a lot to do with the librarian we had.

It's non-fiction and very worth the read. Though I have to confess I have never read the whole thing from cover to cover.

I love To Kill A Mockingbird, and the film, too. They're both brilliant.

Well next time I am Sydney I will have to borrow the book.

I liked To Kill a Mockingbird to. (And no it's not because of Gregory Peck being in the film)

Is it wrong that I constantly mix up To Kill a Mockingbird and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes it is.

Funny, though ...

They're from the same era and were both made into movies?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Um ... sort of? I suppose they're also both American and feature humans ...

[identity profile] ex-pseudicid32.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, yes! Precisely!

[identity profile] ex-pseudicid32.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
