Reccity reccity! All H/D or at least H, D
There are a small number of people from the internet that I have met, and, very fortunately, they have all been splendid. One of these is
pushdragon , who is simply one of the best fandom writers there is. Or was, but I am living in hope. Because otherwise I will have to convince cocktail waiters to pour 'write more fic' on top of her drinks in syrup, and that's going to cost.
She left fandom, then made a brief detour back to write bushfire 'drabbles', which all turned out to be more along the short fics line, but no one was complaining. I come with recs for two of them.
Undiluted, ill-reputed, convoluted is the fic she wrote for
calanthe_fics (and a bit for me!). Cal prompted 'give it to me straight and hard, no frills'. Push, being push, obliged very literally. Now, many of you know that I am not a girl for porn. So when I say that this made even me a little hot under the collar, those of you who do love the porn should take it as a sign to stop reading me and go read her. For those who are in my camp, this is one of the best short expressions I have seen as to why characters are sometimes best shown through sex. Reserves are lowered along with trousers here and the visceral connection with another person that can be found through sex is perfectly depicted. Oh, er, story-wise Harry avoids work in Brussels in favour of sex in Barcelona with Draco. Good choice.
The second of her stories, Here on the Shoulder of the Impossible is so lovely that you won't realise how much it has resonated with you until a day or two later. It is a world of giant birds and iridescent plants with gnashy teeth and tendrils, pulsating with magic, raw and wonderful. Into this world fit two broken wizards, looking for a place apart. In all the best ways, this is the perfect blend of two of my favourite books: Jane Eyre and Where the Wild Things Are. Take all the greatest beauty from your memories of both and mingle them gently for this lyrical poem of a story.
Another of the people I have met and loved is
raitala (and not just because she is a shameless enabler of comedic Brammers behaviour). I have long held that she is one of the finest artists in fandom, partially for her technical skill, but also for her intelligence in creating narratives within her work. While many of you have already her latest artwork, for those who haven't, please go straight away and be amazed at her take on The Sectumsempra Scene. In three panels, focussing on Draco, she brings the viewer into an inimate realisation of the gut-wrenching pain it takes to drive a Malfoy to sob at a basin, and then the shadow of Potter appears in the mirror, before an unseen exchange of shouts, then a slash of a wand and an arterial spurt of blood ... Her spare style is perfect here, and devastating.
Actually, I lied, I do have a rec that's not H/D, and it's from someone I have not met,
snegurochka_lee . I was lucky enough to work with her on hp10k, and after reading a few of her pieces, she is now one of those writers whose links I will now click regardless of who she is writing about because she is simply good. Hero Worship is Charlie/Victor, with Charlie's two young Potternephews visiting him in Romania. When a familiar famous figure appears, young James nearly explodes with glee, but Albus, who notices things, sees what his uncle isn't saying. This isn't just a lovely story about the pain of being in a closet and the importance of family and support, it's a beautifully put-together story that judges every moment cleverly and honestly, and which makes every character's journey seem natural and necessary. Even if you don't care about Charlie Weasley's love life (don't tell me – I couldn't bear it), this is a story that should be read just because it is so well crafted and so emotionally satisfying that you will feel better in your day for having read it.

Let's see ... I've gushed about Here on the Shoulder of the Impossible, not that I have any clue what JE or WeWTA is like *blush*, haven't gone back to the rest of Push's bushfire drabbles yet but will (and I want to restart reading Reliquary). Raitala's art is AWESOME - beautiful and intense ... and Snegurochka ..she's my new find!!! I started reading her earlier in the year and whoa! Finally I friended her after reading the 10k fic :D

Yes, yes, yes, and YES! And if it can't be fanfic, let it be original fic. :)
Loved Rai's art too - need to check out Lee's fic.

I really enjoyed Schn...Schzz...Lee's latest fic. Drunken fandom discussions in London frequently foundered upon the shoals of how to pronounce her user name ;D

LOL. It's Russian! Not as hard as it looks, I swear! :)

"Hero Worship" is a fantastic fic. I love her Charlie. I love James. I love Albus. I really am just in love with it. It's sly and tense and smart and unexpected. I need to comment on her LJ ( I hate not having an IJ but I'm not going to open one for commenting now that DreamWidth is also sucking journalling resources. *sigh*)

Sigh, I keep hoping that pushdragon will feel like coming back to fandom or even write a book or something. Her writing is something else:)

And this:
reserves are lowered along with trousers is a summary I want to write a fic specifically for!
Also - Rai and Snegurochka? Yes!!
