Have you finished?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, though I will need a little time to put my thoughts in order. I can go back and read everyone else's comments now!

I could be right about the amount of lipgloss on the model (it's ASTOUNDING, sansa!)

[identity profile] libby-drew.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. Cheesy cover art is cheesy. I'm trying to ignore it.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And how does a 15-year-old end up with neck skin like that? Is there a sunscreen shortage among American models? (I'm buying the UK cover when it finally releases here and hiding this one behind it, for aesthetics' sake)

You could just take off the dust jacket and enjoy the sword.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, I am a lifelong hoarder of dust jackets.

[identity profile] libby-drew.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. I use the jacket to mark my page. It's an old habit, but I'm thinking the cover will have to go away once I've finished reading. :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
But what will you break out when your children deny fashions were stupid in their childhood? To this day my mother shakes her head and says 'Brammers, you thought the Bay City Rollers were attractive.' (In my defence, I was seven.)

Yes.

Chat has also decided that one of Mae's shirts has a ninja riding a peacock.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This seems highly likely to me. And I am pleased to see that Sarah internalised all of the 'But a cube has six sides, you mean a tetrahedron' comments from that fic she wrote ;-)

It is entirely possible that I own a hot pink t-shirt saying "Romeo and Juliet wouldn't have lasted" as made by a member of Marmalade Fish.

Naturally.

...there is a half-finished sketch of a peacock on a notecard on my desk, staring at me with the eye that's pointed toward me, and with all the "eyes" on his tail.

My classmates saw it and told me I was a horrible person.

Yay!

right about what?

y'know what has me confused about it?

the cover model sort of vaugly kind of looks like Tom Welling and the title has lex in it.

--full of shimmery marvels and bountiful thunder--???? huh westerfeld likes it? i like his stuff, should i give this thing a try?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, you have uncovered the secret! It's really Smallville fanfic written by Leonardo!

(I love the way your brain works!)

I was right about something I suspected from page 58, though not in a negative 'that was so predictable' way; while it was predictable, it was interestingly so. It is worth giving it a go.

[identity profile] droolfangrrl.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe, i'll borrow it from the library if so.

I'm reading this FIRST though, 'cause NPR interviewed the author and it sounded interesting

And fair enough, he is an arse-kickingly good writer.

I believe on your to-do list, finishing TDL came THIRD??? *pointed look*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't beta on the train!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true! Seats are rare, managing a book is the limit of my balancing act!

[identity profile] melusinahp.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Lmao. Took you long enough. ;P

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
My free hour a day is no help when it comes to reading books!

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Does this just reinforce that you are astute or imply the book is predicatble?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously the former;-)

The particular plot point is telegraphed, but I think it needs to be because otherwise large swathes of the book would not make sense. I think I will have to reread it to get my head fully around what I think about it, but it's worth a second reading.

[identity profile] being-here.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I had to stop myself commenting on that post so I didn't give spoilers!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aside from every other clue, it was the only reason that such a word-obsessed writer would have such a monosyllabic hero ;-)

[identity profile] winstonmom.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what it says about me, but I was truly surprised by the end revelation. Then I read all the other postings and realized that most people kind of figure out way before I did. Maybe that is one of the reasons why I could never be a private detective.

I really like the book but I have some issues with Nick's brother.

[identity profile] faynia.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!

I had totally spoiled myself before even buying the book, for I have no restraint

I've been waiting all weekend for you to finish! All I wanted to do was talk to you about it! LOL. I finished it Saturday afternoon and whined very loudly in your general direction so you'd hurry up already, did you hear me?

XD

*goes off to plot more Jamie/Nick despite really not having the time to write that shit*

[identity profile] adores-draco.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Here is the Finnish cover of the book.
I think it looks really good.

I'm not reading any of the comments in this post for fear there is a spoiler somewhere in there. What, paranoid? moi? Eh, lets just call it cautious, shall we.

[identity profile] emerald-dragon8.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ah!! I have to read this book - Dymocks assure me that it will be in on Monday. However I can't get to the bookstore until Friday (bloody work). :( So another week gone without reading it! :(

[identity profile] lyras.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
I am impressed at your astuteness! I just thought he was an insensitive arsehole. *g*
