Briefly ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [personal profile] deannawol ! All the best for the day, may it bring exactly the cake, presents and happy events you desire!

Today at work we received a letter from a woman in Queensland informing us that by running an advert for the federal government's changed laws on same-sex partnerships and benefits, we were encouraging moral perfidy and defying God's law, in support of which she provided a few semi-biblical cliches.

This neatly segued with this post from [livejournal.com profile] annafugazzi  that I read last night, in which she posted a link to a brilliant song celebrating Mad Bad Pat Robertson's infamous Sex With Ducks comments. I mentioned that they were the same girls who had written and performed the brilliant Worst Song Medley, then [personal profile] marguerite_26 , who is terribly clever, linked to this page, which contains a selection of their video clips. Sassy, sexy and very very snarky, I thoroughly recommend checking them out: Garfunkel and Oates.

After 20 minutes of everyone in the office being cranky at letter woman for being
a. a Bigot
b. an Idiot
c. unChristian, and
d. Ignorant of her religion's source material
we then had another 20 minutes of gleefully playing the 'Oh look! Tax concessions! Yes, you've convinced me! I will forswear the penis!' It may be that this month's issue will contain more typos than usual. I know who to blame.

Finally, if you are in Denmark, I would like to plug a gig that an old friend of mine (who I have, alas, not seen in ages) is performing. His name is Darren Hanlon, and while he may break out a piano accordian, his skill and whimsy make it more than worth sitting through any of his odder instrument choices (including but not limited to kazoo, banjo and balalika). He's performing as part of the Sculptures by the Sea event, which is the best Australian export since ugg boots. The website can be found here, or this may be enough for you to find him:

Australian Culture Weekend presents: Sculptures by the Sea

Sunday JUNE 14th, 3PM  with College Fall

PS I dropped my Old English textbook on my head a few hours ago and now I have an enormous lump, for which I can obviously not take an aspirin. If tomorrow I start posting My Little Pony slash, send help. At least [livejournal.com profile] joanwilder  will know how to respond to that ...

Oh, and do let me know what is at the archaeology museum, I have a great love for your pre-17th century textiles and domestic items and may be in the neighbourhood in the next few months.

...I think the execution of Sculptures by the Sea has been horrible, though. The whole deal with the (- whatever it's called, our non-king -) prince's sculpture is ridiculous.

The archaeology museum mostly focuses on the danish iron- and bronze ages. The primary attraction is probably Gravballemanden, a very well researched bog body, who resides in his own chamber(/slightly sinister tomb). That part is quite good, as is of course the rest, but this is the only part even slightly updated in form.
The location of the museum is an old, newly restored manor - with a gorgeous park - where part of the Aarhus Uni anthropology dep. resides as well, and the anthropological collection is amazing. An exhibit on Knud Rasmussen is opening soon, and as their Greenlandic material is really very very good, it should be worth a visit. The anthropological museum in Aarhus does some of the very best exhibitions of their kind that I have ever seen - London/Dublin/Madrid/NY - rarely disappointing.

Also, every year at the end of July, there's a very impressive Viking market. They do a battle reenactment on horseback, all of them beautiful every-colour-imaginable Icelandic horses, with stunning horsemanship. And!!! - there are good pancakes.
