A simple good news story

I'm a bit tired and bleagh at the moment, and I know that I'm not the only one. So I thought I would share this story from the Sydney Morning Herald.

For those wondering whether or not to click the link, the precis is: Little old deaf dog gets lost and becomes trapped, many big burly men rescue him. HAPPY ENDING. Big burly men fob off praise, family reunited with much-loved pet, dog thumps tail cheerfully. And there's video.

And now we wait for the movie deal...

It could be the sequel to Beaconsfield ... though not as gripping in the dialogue department.

Yeah, might be a bit 'ruff' in parts. ;)

Sorry for the bad humour. lol.

That's TERRIBLE. Thank you!

Hahaha, I know, I'm barking mad. ;p

On the one hand, I miss stories like that in the papers. Stories not about how grotesquely someone died, how someone shamelessly lied and thieved, political bs, but a story how something was done well. On the other hand, there are places out there where a disappearing human won't get even approximately the treatment this dog had. Am I crazy to read good news with cynicism? I think it's a day like that for me today.

In many parts of the world, you're right. In Australia, however, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaconsfield_Mine_collapse

That they treat even trapped dogs as worth the effort and at the very least excellent training exercises is one of the things I like about Australians.

:nods: If that attitude doesn't make you confident the state views every person as a valuable citizen, I don't see what can. Australia also has an excellent healthcare system (or so it seems from several time zones away) and great many other pluses that I won't particularly point out.

Bottom line: if I had to choose one non-European country to live in, it wouldn't be the US.

*Actually the only thing I can't understand about Aus is the curious direction-confusion... :D

Aside from having no economy, New Zealand might even be better: cleaner air and better scenery ;-) But yes, I stayed on here for a reason.

And we do know the difference between up and down here! Down is the direction gravity goes in, also known as where spilled beer flows!

Oh so its a soppy animal stories kind of day is it?

It was a cute story. Good to know the Aussies are just as barmy about their dogs as the British :)

It was Scooby rescue or read through icanhazcheeseburger ... And then I spilled tomato down my coat. Sigh.

I loved the fact that there were at least three rescue services there, plus the RSPCA. I just know they spent all day discussing which methods would work best and then drawing diagrams.

Ruh roh! Scooby snacks for everyone!

Indeed! I think there will be slabs of beer all round, given their Australian ;-)

I like happy endings. This article restored my faith
in people and their acts of help and kindness. Thanks.

You're very welcome. In a dodgy day, this made me smile broadly, so I wanted to share.

It's such a lovely story. Pets do get into the oddest places. *g8

Ah, stuff like these helps restore a little bit of my faith in humanity ♥
