Danke! But it was literally a flying visit, the only two problems being that we had been delayed by over an hour in Singapore, and the British Airways flight I was connecting to did not have a gate listed. I asked a lovely security guard if there was an information desk where I could find out about the gate I was meant to be at, she and I failed in our mission on the computer, so she assured me she would do something. Four minutes later an announcement came over the tannoy telling the whole airport where the gate was, which I think was her doing. THere is a reason I love Germany!

Am in London now, and will only make it to Berlin if Paris is closed down by a general strike, but if you are in Frankfurt on the 22nd, catsintheattic and I will be having a quick cuppa in my four-hour layover ;-)

That's a pity! Unfortunately (?) I live in Berlin, so we won't have a chance to meet each other. I'm glad all your problems at the airport were solved in the end.

London is lovely, too, so I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. Tschüß!

Fingers crossed next year! I want to catch all the Aertsen and Beuckelaer paintings and drawings I can find, as well as Bruegel, and you have quite a few in collections there.

Hey, you're in my country. *waves*

And heh, our keyboard is nothing against the French keyboard. At least we swap only two letters. :P

*Waves back* Though I have left it now, sadly. Back in two weeks and a bit! And you are quite right: if only one of them wasn't Y ;-)

I had huge keyboard troubles when I lived in France. Normally I touch type, but not on their mixed up keyboards *grumbles*

Yes, the French ones are the hardest! I had the keyboard in my head for theirs for about three days, then it fell straight out of my brain.

The German keyboard confused me a little, but the first time I sat down to use a French keyboard I stared at it for a couple of minutes thinking 'uh oh'. I ended up switching the keyboard language to English, closing my eyes, and touch typing.

HA! By far the best way to manage it! I just rely on having my laptop to hand most of the time. The joy of finding free wifi spots has become one of my modern travel adventures ...

It was a lovely hour and and I am kicking myself that I did not listen to my instincts and make this trip London and Berlin rather than London and Paris!

Is the German keyboard really that different?

The big difference is that it swaps y and z, and has a few umlaut characters on the right.

It is not so bad for people who are not as addicted to adverbs as I am. But happily, I quickly acclimatised ;-)
