Alive! Ish ...

Why is it that I can always reset my body to European time with little pain, but coming back to Australian time slaughters me?
After the many adventures involved in getting home, I returned to the Christmas my friends created. Bless them. S, who is a chef, had sent a come to astonishingly delicious dinner message, while L, who is a chief medical scientist, had provided a duck in the fridge and assorted goodies to go with it.
pseudicide had not only dropped around a tin of baked goods, but had arranged for someone who was not me to feed her cats, which is why they have not been fed at 11pm each day. I am unbelievably fortunate in my friends.
Dinner with the gang was lovely, and reminded me that I need to be better at catching up with people. Miraculously, every child save three (of which two were a surprise and one was me being an idiot) had a gift! There may have been some themes in the gifts: essentially, everything came from the fabulous Skandium or from Heathrow Duty Free. Skandium is on Brompton Rd and sells many lovely Scandinavian homewares (the Moonin stuff was all very reasonably priced, as opposed to the £100+ wooden monkeys), it is just as well my luggage was already at its limit as I would have otherwise bought dozens of Moomin mugs. As to the duty free, well, who doesn;t like toy cars and giant blocks of Toblerone?
This did lead to me spending Christmas trying to explain Moomins to an Australian under six set, but the parents were already in on the Finn-family action, so all is well.
At this point, I should mention that I have just come back from the pub where I accidentally drank two double Cointreaus on an empty stomach and may well be very very stonkered, due to being a tragic lightweight in the alcohol department.
Anyway, a belated but heartfelt HAPPY CHRISTMAS to all who celebrate it, and HAPPY CHANNUKAH to all who celebrate it. (Alas, I was in Charles de Gaulle airport with
raitala rather than at Channikah dinner. Poo! Though excellent company.) I will be on time and possibly compis mentis for New Year. And happy Yule or Western public holidays to everyone else!
Quite shortly I will be functional enough to post a few photo essays on my travels. Providing people are willing to overlook the fact that I am a dismal photographer. But I have jokes! And now, back to beta-ing. Might have a coffee first, to counteract the Cointreau ...
