[livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet  and I slugged our way back out to Melbourne Supanova today. We were more useful as con goers today! We went to panels and saw James Marsters (very funny, very sweet) and Gareth David Lloyd (a wee bit pissed, he alleges, and I believe him), but did not see Karl Urban nor Mary McDonnell, whose hair I have long admired.

I have the best autographed photo ever for [livejournal.com profile] annes_stuff  from the truly delightful Karl Urban. I asked for three words and received a paragraph, because Kiwis are generally lovely people and apparently rather hot Kiwi actors are even lovelier than the general. He's a bit of all right, that one.

However, this pales when compared to treacle's haul of Gareth David-Lloyd memorabilia. She has photos, signatures, and his fingerprints and lipprints all over her baby. Indeed, when he was cuddling and cooing at said baby during the autograph session, James Marsters leaned across and declared 'Best fangift EVER!'

Which is why this evening, treacle and I found ourselves at a cocktail do, sitting either side of GDL, while he held the Treaclette and cooed and cossetted her to sleep. If you are looking for an internationally known televisual figure to mind your nine-day-old infant, we highly recommend Gareth David-Lloyd. And his girlfriend was similarly charming and good with the tiny and squishy.

All in all, despite feeling about 104 surrounded by all the young folk and having to ask some of the volunteers who certain 'celebs' were, I appreciated how well run things were and how dedicated the volunteers were. Not to mention I now know who at least three more televisual artists are. Which isn't quite as good as meeting everyone at dinner last night. DEFINITE high point of the weekend. And [livejournal.com profile] frankkincense  and [livejournal.com profile] meredyth_13 , if you're about tomorrow, we're free for lunch! I'll email you!

ETA: This is why I should post AFTER showering and not before ...

The entire day today was made IMMENSELY easier by our lovely friend [livejournal.com profile] pseudicide . She secured us seats at the front for James Marsters and then had it declared that the 'woman with the tiny infant (and her companion)' could leave outside of the strict exiting strategy they have at these things (when actually treacle only needed to stand up and stretch due to the fact that even very tiny babies get heavy after a while, but it was a gift horse, so we did not look at its teeth but rather rode it out of there!) Woman with tiny infant is my new name for treacle ...

And we never did get our acts together enough to cosplay officially, however, given she is tall and blonde and I am short and brunette, and she is gracious and serene and I am scrappy and frowny, I decided that we were actually cosplaying Lindsay and Melanie from Queer as Fuck US.  Albeit with completely the wrong hair.

The hearts in my eyes are SO huge, oh man.

And, yes! I have no suggestions but would love to hang out with y'all at lunch :)

We were thinking about the National Gallery of Victoria International, as they have a good little cafe on the second or third floor. Around 12.30 would be ideal: would you like me to meet you at the cloakroom so we can be sure to go to the correct caff? YAY!

And yes, GDL was being very sweet indeed with the baby. Good lad!

NB, it's the NGV International, the one on the other side of the Yarra from Flinders St Station, but down the same stretch of road as the station. I have confused it with the Australian section in the past, to my frustration. You are obviously brighter and less deranged than I, but it never hurts to over-explain ;-)

Treacle is going to be an extemely happy fangirl forever more and she will be able to gloat in years to come that a tv star got the munchkin to sleep in his arms.

It sounds like you have all had a fantastic weekend!

She is giggling in agreement at the delightfulness of your comment :-) And the Treaclette now has a story just like my David Bowie story, hurrah! Our friend pseudicide has been having a jolly good time volunteering and has a huge cache of stories, which we're looking forward to hearing :-)

Wait a minute, what's your David Bowie story - how did I miss this?!

I've probably never told it here. When I was a rather little girl, my au pair had quit and dad failed to find a babysitter, so I was dragged along to a grown-up party and sat in the corner in a nest of cushions with my books. A very nice man came and sat near me and asked if I was pretending to read. I informed him that I could read very well, thank you, which made him laugh. He sat with me for ages chatting and reading and was delightful. Afterwards, my Dad kept saying, 'Do you know who that was?!'

The downside of all this is that years later when all of my girlfriends had massive crushes on the Thin White Duke, I could only think of him as a lovely and kind father figure. Albeit a very hot one ...

Karl Urban was the nicest, aside from baby Treacle, but he's a better conversationalist than she is ;-) (She has cuter tiny toesies!!)

It was good fun! Which is nothing short of a miracle as Treacle and I expected to feel like the oldest, maddest women in Oldmadania. In fact, we were comparatively quite sane. Though I was still old ;-)

If my single celebrity crush spot was not already filled by David Tennant, I would have developed an instant crush on him. Just a lovely chap, and better looking in real life than on screen. As it is, I have added him to my very short list of actors I would happily live in the house next-door to. We would have occasional cups of tea and I would teach him how to use apostrophes in return for him not minding me looking at him with a certain non-platonic appreciation ;-)

Snuffly little Squish is asleep and snuffling on my shoulder, lulled to sleep by the Torchwood theme once again.

gracious and serene ? I think you are confusing grace and serenity with fatigue and the shock of being in charge of a newborn...and you have no idea how tempted I was, when GDL asked about Squish's father, to tell him that you and I had used a donor.

Don't forget to email your pics from the weekend! I actually quite like the one of me trying not to flash James Marsters :)

I had the same desire! And OH how I wish you had -- I'd still be giggling!

Were you all right getting into the lounge? They looked at me askance but promised it would all be fine, so I hope it was or I shall have to write A Letter of Complaint.

And I will email them as soon as I download them. You're always gracious and serene, at least in comparison to me!

AHAHAHAHAHAH! Oh, another missed oportunity...

We got into the lounge, and it was a lifesaver (although they stock arrestingly dreadful tea). But, I had food and orange juice and a comfy chair, and therefore did not in fact break down in tears before I got on my plane home! Hurrah!

I am shocked and appalled by most of the photos of me from this weekend. Well, not shocked, because I know I photograph terribly, but oh, dear god! I've asked Dee to either crop or delete one from her facebook. Blurg! No more pics until I've lost a great deal of weight!
