See if you can pick what I like about this video?

That's right, it's the bustle and pauldrons ;-) Backing dancers are purely a bonus.

* Katie is a terrific singer, but I would probably have ignored her as a Popular Young Person were it not for a contretemps between her and the Guardian's terrific science journalist Simon Singh. He jokingly criticised a verse in one of her songs, where she wrote:
We are 12 billion light-years from
the edge,
That's a guess,
No one can ever say it's true,
But I know that I will always be
with you.

which he insisted would be better rendered as:
We are 13.7 billion light-years from
the edge of the observable universe,
That's a good estimate with
well-defined error bars,
Scientists say it's true, but
acknowledge that it may be refined,
And with the available information, I predict that I will always be
with you
Katie, bless her, rang Simon to apologise, saying she was particularly mortified because she had been in the Astronomy Club when she was at school. She recut a version of the song, which you can hear in its entirety with added discussion by following the Katie link in the left-hand panel on this page, or catch the short version over here (and if anyone knows which TED presentation the latter is from, I would love a link!)

And here I was thinking it was the way they turned the piano into a mechanical bull ride! Like the song, like the video - hellishly inspired by the pauldron and bustle combo to go play with some steampunk designs... Though I had to watch the clip several times - there was soemthing wrong with the pauldrons - appeared to be on backwards or something in a few bits but no that's just the shape of the pauldron :)

I could absolutely see you in that outfit! Did you get a bit lost in some of the split-screen where they had her from front and back at the same time? (I know I did!) Do Steampunk!shu_shu, it would be divine!

I could totally see me in that outfit as well! I even used to own the appropriate pauldrons (not any more though) though I will say that are nice pauldrons :) Yes the split screen did add to the confusion as to whether she had them on back to front but is a really good film clip. Steampunk shushu - well just looking for an excuse really... it looks like such fun. I am going to Aussiecon so maybe I might be able to do something before then.

Lol, I'm so behind the times, I don't even know who Katie is. I really like the video though. ;)

I don't know anything about her except for they make fun of her on an issue of Nevermind the Buzzcocks, but that's really rad. She sounds like a very charming person.

What a great video, I must go back and watch it again and again and ... :-)

Like the song and rather like Katie's delightful acknowledgement of her mistake.
