Very brief election update

Crabbe on the final stretch of the hustings, ordering a drink: 'I'd like a shandy* of light**, with about 60 per cent lemonade.'
I know that Abbott treats his body as a temple, but that's ridiculous. Just order a bloody lemonade!
As
quatrefoil notes, Hermione, in similar conditions, ordered a schooner of dark beer***. Bless.
* A shandy is a beverage part-beer, part-lemonade or other fizz. Wikipedia assures me that in Germany it's known as a Radler, and in France as a panache. In Australia, it's known as a genteel drink for genteel ladies of a certain age ETA: and,
complications_g assures me, medium-sized children..
** Light beer is an abomination and utterly unAustralian. I'm not even a real Australian and I'm offended by it!
*** It was only a matter of time until she turned to drink.

Date: 2010-08-20 12:56 pm (UTC)That's what my dad used to let us have one a really really hot day, a small smidgin of beer topped with lemonade, it was a KIDS drink and one for the ladies of a certain age, i.e my Nanna.
Grown men do not drink shandies, they either have a beer OR a lemonade, not a pansy arsed combo of both.

Date: 2010-08-20 05:41 pm (UTC)I have such mixed feelings about this! On the one hand, "Booo! Australia shallow!" On the other - not Tony Abbot, PM ... "Yay!"

Date: 2010-08-20 01:23 pm (UTC)I must say though even as a non drinker if I was about to win or lose leadership of my country I reckon I would splash out and have a Bundy Rum Liquor with cream. If my public though I was a piss head from that well, it would explain a lot.

Date: 2010-08-20 04:33 pm (UTC)...Lemonade is the drink of a leader, Mr Abbott! Australians want a sober leader! I swear!

Date: 2010-08-20 09:09 pm (UTC)In Germany, Alsterwasser is totally accepted for everybody OVER THE AGE OF 16! NOT for children. It does contain real beer, after all. Now I don't know about the Australian beer, but the German one is the real stuff. Hehe.
I love Alsterwasser, it's the best after a hot day, and I just had one tonight :-)

And one guinness isn't turning to drink - one guinness is just a food supplement. Now, 15 guinnesses and a few whisky chasers - that's turning to drink.
While I probably won't, I honestly (naively) would love to vote 1) Australian Sex Party, 2) Secular Party, 3) Ranga's team (and of course, Green in the Senate all the way). *headdesk*
Of course, 1 and 2 are based on reading their policy papers*, and frankly, anyone with even a sprinkling of knowledge on Aus politics knows that you can't believe anything written on policy papers - that's just the marketing spin. What you get after the big day? That's the product, and it's never what was written on the packaging. I didn't even bother to read 3's policy papers - but fortunately they were printed on nice soft stock. ;)
*and I didn't agree with 'everything' any party has out there. *sigh*
ps. Is it wrong of me to want to start the Australian Rational Party? Of course, this would be rational according to Mere - which probably wouldn't suit everyone. Hell, just the fact that Abbott's polling well is clear indication of that. *goes back to headdesking*

Date: 2010-08-20 11:02 pm (UTC)And people drink it??? SACRILEGE!!!!
The (dead) Goan part of my family must be curling up in foetal positions in their caskets, crying out for God to pull them out of Hell, and aforementioned lightening of beer.
