What? December? Really?

End-of-year posts have been popping up all over my flist, which probably means that I will have to accept that it is actually happening and not continue dating things 2010 until March 2011 (that's not the worst of it -- I managed to declare I had signed something in 1987 the other month. The person witnessing it looked at me carefully and said 'That's not your birth year, is it?' 'God no,' I replied. 'But it was a great year!')

One thing that is bringing me great joy is that popular culture is almost uniformly referring to this as the end of the decade. Which is correct! Well done! (There is no year 0 in the Western AD calendar, so we start at 1 and finish at 10.) One of the girls in the caff was complaining that some numpty had told her that the decade ended last year, but that she had set him straight. I congratulated her on being correct, though, being evil, reminded her that she had insisted the millennium, century and decade began in 2000. 'Yeah, that's right.' 'So it's an 11-year decade?' 'Shut up.'

I've paid that girl's way through her twenties in tips, she can take a bit of teasing.

My yearly wrap-up looks something like this:
Wrote: much less than I meant to. Though there was a surprise hit with the Aus Politics as Harry Potter, which brought some utterly fantastic new flistees and so was worth the sudden shock of all those visitors. Must reply to those comments ... oh, why start now?
Read: a lot of Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle, the wonderful Alan Bradley Flavia novels and nowhere near enough fanfic. Took to reading The Economist again after a few years off, it's still worth the cover price.
Watched: Dance Academy and Doctor Who, even though I have still not been able to bring myself to watch the end of Ten.
Went: nowhere near as many places as I meant to, though it was wonderful to pop down to Melbourne and up to Brisbane and see people. Italy was brilliant as always (and I will get back to travelogues now I have freed up more time), and London a joy, but the surprise delight was Bath, where the company was spectacular!
Did: my foot in walking, well, shattering it years ago, really, but exacerbated it with too much walking. Happily it is responding to physio so I look to be in the lucky group who avoid surgery for mangling like this. Managed to avoid any other disasters and had some successes along the way, hurrah! Oh, and knitted quite a bit!
Enjoyed: those closest to me, especially you flist folk, you're all so interesting!

Next year's plans are:
* Finish more stories, fic and original.
* Attend dance classes of some description. Tap looks fun!
* Knit and sew more in a bid to clear out the craft materials stash to reasonable levels.
* Attempt to be better at replying to comments and posts. But I am, you know, crap.

Meanwhile, I hope very much that you all have a SPLENDID New Year celebrated or ignored in the way that you enjoy the most. I will be out with friends, giggling madly thanks to goddessriss  -- she knows why!

I mis-spell my name all the time -- too many loopy bits all close together, my poor old brain panics and begins changing the order randomly ;-)

And YAY! (Christian, Ethan, or should she concentrate on her studies? And if she chooses Ethan, do you think Sammy has a chance? I may have been given the DVDs for Christmas, it is like being 13 all over again!)

Tap - physio in disguise for those with frozen ankles :) I started swing dancing this year which is heaps of fun, think I'll be doing a bit more next year....

I am not sure whether or not my ankles qualify as frozen, because they are over-flexible at going up and down and reasonably good at side to side, but then the bones have only just started to move again after a month of physio! I had no idea things were that tight ...

But YES! Thinking about it, it would be a good adjunct to physio at the same time as being fun rather than painful!

I didn't mind anyone thinking that, because all the newspapers were saying it. It was continuing to argue the point after being told 'But we start at AD 1 ...' 'It is a perfectly good excuse for a big party' was also a reasonable defence in my book ;-)

Loved reading this. Someone will have to explain this to me and type very slowly in words of one syllable, but there was no year 0, ok, but then there was no year 1 or 17 or 29 or any other date until someone invented the calendar in retrospect, so in my opinion that means we can do whatever we jolly well like and some dates just sound better and more memorable than others. And I'm sure the end of the next decade will be 2019, so this will be a short one! but a very happy new year to you my dear and to all you other readers. Just off to celebrate new year down at the harbour in Wellington NZ so cheers to you all as you catch up, and will be in touch later if our internet link stops being naughty. (Perhaps a meeting in Sydney airport in January?)

Also, the end of Donna is much more tear-inducing than the end of 10.

On a happier note, I can't wait for the third Flavia de Luce book.

I have been making hats for the most part, for adults, for babies, any day now I will make one for a dog and then I will need to beat myself. The problem with scarves is that they are long and boring, which is fabbo for the first one, but after 20 or so, not so much fun.

HURRAH for more people reading Flavia! I keep checking up on his health, he is not young ... And yes, I have watched most of 11, but in my head, 10 is still alive, too ;-)

I have a cunning way to break the '2010...no, 2011, dammit!' habit - this is the Year of Elevenses! An entire year dedicated to having a cup of tea and a Little Something around elevenish. Now that you realise that, can you really expect your habit-brain to stay in boring old 2010?
