My friends, I announce to you an auspicious moment. We are now proper Australians as my beloved has given me a barbecue!

I have a long post of thanks for undeserved generosities and kindnesses, but am about to sink into a pavlova coma, be back later when I can thank people in a more sophisticated manner than the immortal words of Jeff Fenech: 'I love youse all!'

(Though I do!)

(And now you can all rock around and I can throw shrimps on the barbie! Even though they're prawns, and I have never liked them, and it seems cruel ... barbecue vegie salad?)

They shine in the dark when your torch strikes them underwater, you know, and they have such happy little faces ...

I like prawns, too. They are yummy, BB. I'm with Darry. Put them back on along with a steak. *g*

I cook all sorts of veggies on the barbecue! Corn on the cob. Oh, and yams are so yummy! And asparagus! Um. Now I wish we could get to ours under the 2 feet of snow. :\

Ooh is/was it your birthday? Many happy returns, and I would like to announce to all present that Brampton is the finest company one could have on a stopover in Sydney and the best tour guide ever. Hope the thank you e-mail has wended its way through the ether, and have a wonderful year. (Barbecue time is beginning to sound like the walrus and the carpenter!)

Well the prawns ARE dead before we throw them on the barbie, so its not like cooking them hurts them at all :)

I love them, but if you don't like them anyway its a fabulous excuse to not hurt the poor lettuces by BBQing them (no no I can hear the lettuces screaming.....) and skip straight to the dessert course and eat more pav!

Glad your birthday was a good one.

"barbecue vegie salad" is most excellent. Longwise slices of any vegetable you like, brushed with your favorite 'oil' (olive, clarified butter, mayonnaise, etc.), grilled to your taste of doneness. Maybe drop dampened sprigs of herbs on the coals for 'smoke' flavorings: rosemary, sage, thyme, anything local you like?

Some favorites: eggplant, large mushrooms (portabella!), zuchini, sweet potato or yam, various 'hard' squashes (e.g. pumpkin).

Mmm, getting hungry here :)

*hugs* Here's to many more natal day celebrations *clink*
