Cyclone Yasi took out one of the weather stations tracking it this morning. A station that was built to withstand Category 5 cyclones. Up north they have either fled or barricaded themselves inside.

For those of you abroad, yes, that's the same state that spent most of the last two months underwater. Bloody hell.

And you Americans in the Big Snow, keep safe! Stay inside and put an extra dog on the bed!

Can we have a carbon tax now, please? It has to cost less than mopping up after so many extreme weather events.

I have had people tell me that in all seriousness. I bet they weren't expecting the twenty minute lecture on sea temperatures and their effects that followed. (I am thinking of making up pamphlets ...)

I am guessing that it will take one of the following:
* An OPEC nation being swamped by either a cyclone or rising sea levels.
* The Lord God making an appearance on American television to say 'WTF, people, this is not how I left it.' (Personally, I would be shocked.)
* The Scandinavians somehow seizing control of all international organisations including the UN and World Bank and imposing Basic Practical Sense.
