Dear LJ, please do not eat half of my posts. Thank you. OK, trying that again ...

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] romaine24 ! sorry I am late, you rock!

* New 'president' of Madagascar? Looks 12.

* Saw some High School Musical today. I know I am not the target audience, but I'm afraid I hated every second of it. And I generally enjoy both musicals and dodgy American teen movies. When it was first released it came with PR kits out to all the mags saying 'The blockbluster international sensation that's broken records everywhere!'. Being me, I rang the publicist to ask how she could say this when the film had not yet been released in the US, let alone elsewhere. 'It will be,' she promised me.

Ah Disney, gay-friendly policies aside, you really are Cyberdyne.

* This post was far better the first time I typed it, but now it's late and so I am skipping half the points, save to say ---

* Are you following [livejournal.com profile] hp10k_showcase  yet? Here's another reason why you should – [livejournal.com profile] sansa1970 's The Thread Measurer's Apprentice. I know that middle age is unfashionable in fandom, but this is a wonderful story with fortysomething Harry and Draco. They've not seen each other for years at the beginning of the tale, but Draco receives a note warning that Scorpius will die if he flies that afternoon, a warning that turns out both to be true (don't worry, forewarned is forearmed and Scorpius is saved) and in Harry's handwriting. On going to investigate, he finds a Potter who is haunted by ghosts, past and to come.

Sansa's writing is, as always, tremendously human and involving. From Ginny Potter's expanded hips to Draco's wonder at discovering a new passion, this is a story where everyone seems like a real person, one whose fate you care about. There is a character death in the story, but it is neither a major character nor one you expect to survive. For all that, I found it happy and hopeful. In addition, it's an imaginative feat that will make you happy you read in this fandom.

You should check out [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier  and [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26 's work, too, I'll be reccing them tomorrow wwhen I have more time to write coherently!
