My theory is that everyone is allowed to do something moderately awful before they are 20, and as long as they learn from the experience and are better people afterwards, they get a pass. Let's face it, few of us made it through out youth without at least one moment of shameful stupidity, and I have always thought he was cosplaying his great uncle.
