Oh good grief ...

This week remains unhelpful.

Finger is broken (though not badly, all will be well once it stops hurting), then poor young Heath, and now MY MAGAZINE HAS FOLDED!

Now, I do not grow deeply attached to titles and workplaces for the very reason that I am familiar with the vagaries of publishing, but I really enjoyed working there and it was with the smartest and most interesting team I had ever encountered. So ... BUGGER!

Will be fine, there is redundancy pay so I do not need to dip into savings, and I also have three weeks' leave even after the hols, just ... BUGGER!

At least I can now spend a few more days in New Zealand than I looked like being able to. That's good. And if the pay-out comes through quickly and some writing gigs fall into place, I can make it up to Welly for a bit and badger people for more work! And June in Paris is back on the agenda! So really, there are plenty of silver linings, I'll just miss my workmates.

I have to say that New Zealand is very tempting, but there are too many Australians I love for me to depart for their small, green shores. I just fly over when I need a shot of reasonable weather and clean air.

These particular bean counters were the accountants of the private equity firm who bought out a major stake in the publishing house. My mag was uneconomical, apparently. Sigh. I remember when business had space for sentiment.
