Oh good grief ...

This week remains unhelpful.
Finger is broken (though not badly, all will be well once it stops hurting), then poor young Heath, and now MY MAGAZINE HAS FOLDED!
Now, I do not grow deeply attached to titles and workplaces for the very reason that I am familiar with the vagaries of publishing, but I really enjoyed working there and it was with the smartest and most interesting team I had ever encountered. So ... BUGGER!
Will be fine, there is redundancy pay so I do not need to dip into savings, and I also have three weeks' leave even after the hols, just ... BUGGER!
At least I can now spend a few more days in New Zealand than I looked like being able to. That's good. And if the pay-out comes through quickly and some writing gigs fall into place, I can make it up to Welly for a bit and badger people for more work! And June in Paris is back on the agenda! So really, there are plenty of silver linings, I'll just miss my workmates.

Date: 2008-01-24 04:12 pm (UTC)And yes, is bad news. At least I know I will have work. Just not the work I was enjoying. Bloody private equity owners. Although late breaking news has one of the other local moguls suggesting he is interested in buying up the whole shebang; and his publishing house is my favourite! Not holding hopes up too high, though.

Date: 2008-01-24 04:18 pm (UTC)And my partner broke it with a nerf torpedo. Life in our house is a constant source of daftness!

Date: 2008-01-24 01:07 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you're losing your team. Come to Melbourne. The Age is the best paper in Australia. (Such low standards it's not hard.) And did I mention the cocktail bars?
You never know, this change could help you end up somewhere you like even more. I hope so!

Date: 2008-01-24 04:24 pm (UTC)I have sworn to myself that I will not go back to dailies. I want a four-day-a-week job that pays ridiculous amounts. I may need to actually sit down and write that best-selling novel I keep threatening, given the current state of publishing.
Thanks for the good wishes, my partner's work has a lot happening in Melbourne, so it is not an impossibility!

Date: 2008-01-24 11:29 pm (UTC)Best of luck in what lies ahead. Somehow I doubt you will be without work for long! Also, I see the broken finger isn't slowing down your typing - that's dedication! *g*

Date: 2008-01-25 12:09 pm (UTC)I'm never without work for long, but some of it is less appealling than other. It's the universe telling me to finish a damn novel (and some fic)
Eight fingered typing is relatively fast, but still annoying, and occasionally painful when I forget ...

Date: 2008-01-25 12:00 pm (UTC)sorry about the buggery situation, unless of course it means that i get to meet you sooner in which case i'd be pleased as punch about it but not in near you, just quietly in the background [*grins*]

Mmm, anyway. Happy Australia Day! :)

Date: 2008-01-27 03:34 pm (UTC)And I have a 'do' in New Zealand next weekend, which was going to be fly-in, fly-out, but suddenly I have more time ... so there's some good.
I loved that list. Did you know it took me six months to work out that Seeyasarvo was I'll see you this afternoon ... I thought it was some Aborginal word ...
