Only 16 hours today.

I do not want to know what I have left on those pages as horrible blunders ... though I am happy that I was not the person who left in Narnia film-maker  Philip Pullman. Though I did have a funny moment imagining it under his direction ...

Quick note to young people, there are no such famous authors as the following: Evelyn War, Tony Morrison or Hunterest Thomson.

Spend less time on Facebook and more time reading.

Thanks for the expressions of sympathy and outrage. And Bryoney? You'll keep. Right now te worst I could do is nap on you.

Sleep tomorrow, then a week off for writing, then a week off for travelling! Pushdragon, Meredyth  and Sno, think of fun things to do!

OMG! Toni Morrison had a sex change!!! Why does Australia get all the hot gossip first?

I bet Hunterest is the sekrit love child of Hunter S. And Evelyn War was Waugh's stage name back in his punk rock youth.

Why are you not here so I can set you loose at the poor little muppets and watch the hilarity that ensues?

I wouldn't mind if it was the contemporary writers, because that would be wholly understandable. But ... gosh. First year should contain a course where you just sit down and read the material every adult should know.

LOL, I only wish I was there!

There has been so much disagreement everytime someone tries to prepare such a definitive curriculum that it's never been successful. No one wants to be left out, but including every genre and Great Book in the course would take years to assimilate. And I doubt there will ever be unanimity as to which books and authors are Great.

Too hard, I think you just hand out copies of 1001 Books to read before you die, and subscriptions to The Literary Review, Harpers and The New Yorker. That'd do it.

I haven't looked at that list, but I can tell you right now I haven't been able to read Tristram Shandy or Ulysses. Or Finnegans Wake!

Tristram Shandy ROCKS!!!

It's like a postmodern novel written centuries before postmodernism! But I think they should do a spoke-book version with someone like James MacAvoy reading it. That would let people see all the fun and sexiness in the text without having to look at those dense blocks of print.

As for Joyce, he's one of those love or hate authors. I love, but I can completely see why others hate!

I didn't dislike either: I was just frustrated by my inability to read and understand them. I did enjoy the Tristram Shandy movie that was made recently.

I only hate authors if they've done something to annoy me. Such as overt misogyny, or completely unrealistic characters.

Oh my god! I like so totally love Hunterest Thompson, he's like totally my favourite bonzai journalist! *snirk*. And Evelyn War - she's like so amazing! *snigger*

Whatever, I'm a literary loser so really, if I keep going, I'll just end up showing my own ignorance. The last book I read, well, I don't even remember what it was but I'm pretty sure it was meant for 12 year olds.

And come on!! I can't believe that out of all those comments, I'm the only one who rubbed your face in it. Your friends are far too nice.

Where are you travelling to?

From: [identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com
Yes, you are my horrible friend, but you're funny so I will let you live.

That was the thing, even people who don't count themselves as literary would know Evelyn Waugh. And surely you would question a name such as Hunterest? Thickies.

Off to Melbourne, Christchurch and Wellington, just need to sort out dates now that I have some cash rolling in.

I would ask what the hell it is you're doing that requires these kinds of hours at the moment, but then I would lose a question for the near future, and as you've just jinxed me (fun things? Failz!!!) and I am lousy at small talk, I'm clinging to this question as a life saver. ;)

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

*cough*

Right Meredyth, right? *shifty eyes*

*looks over Push's shoulder and checks her list*

You did! I made it! And I almost made sense! (And I did not tip fizz all over myself, unlike SOME lovely people ;-)

:-) My trouble is trying to think of fun things that don't solely revolve around drinking and Harry/Draco. But I'm working on it!

Also Hunterest Thomson etc - gorgeous!

16 hours! I take it you have a good coffee source nearby?

I've just slept all this week. It seems to be doing the trick. I can live with drinking and H/D, though I am a lightweight at the former. The Thurs/Fri before the long weekend are looking good, will email you!

i didn't realise push was from around here (here being in the broad multi-island sense of the word). so this puts us sometime in june right? what kind of fun things do you like? things with actors? moving pics? music? good food and long talks?

and just for the record, i don't think i'm physically able to work 16 hours. well, not v. often anyway...

I am certainly not able to work 19 and 16 hour days; so much sleep this week, plus a massage to make my back work again. Am fiddling dates and discussing with J how long he can do without me, at the moment it looks like the second week in June, with a few days in Chch and an overnight in Welly. Will update v shortly!

But your life does sound diverse and fun (when you're not working yourself into an early...bed.)

So that's why I only found some war memorial when I googled this Evelyn. hm

And when I google Hunterest Thomson, all I get is a link to this very entry... *puzzled*

Yes, that famous gonzo journalist, so soon forgotten! I was too busy laughing to rant at the students, but I should have shouted "Fear and loathing, people!! FEAR AND LOATHING!"

Muppets.
