Spooky ...

I was just reading the TV guide, and this was the start of a review for tomorrow night's Spooks (a show that I have seen perhaps two minutes of):

"Environmental terrorism plagues MI5 as a group of activists invades the Thames Barrier, threatening to leave London vulnerable to an approaching tidal wave ..."

Well, it is an excellent plot.

ROFL. Yeah, saw that one!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel so ashamed that I channel cheesy spy shows. Still, better than George Lucas ...

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Good lord. Please don't channel any beardy blokes.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not even Dickens?

[identity profile] cinnatart.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
you didn't copyright that shit... why? =P

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's worse, they did it first and I just had no idea. Oh the shame!

[identity profile] cinnatart.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
awwwwwwww

well you didn't know. neither did I. as far as I'm concerned, you came up with the whole idea

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I will allow them to share it since they have a hot lead actor.

[identity profile] cinnatart.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
that's very magnanimous of you. *nods*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been studying the nice nuns ;-)

Get well, Mic!

[identity profile] beatnikspinster.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Oh my god! Too funny.

And... how to say this in New York-ese... Cha-CHING! Get a lawyer and your IP hit stats, baby. You just got bankrolled. ;)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, the episode was first aired in 2006. I did think it would make a good story in about 1990, but can't remember ever mentioning it to anyone. (It is probably the third thing that occurs to people looking at the barrier, after isn't that pretty and did they shoot Doctor Who here once?)

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You always put a smile on my face. I think you probably did it better.

Peace,

Bubba

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Bubba. And you have had TWO of my fave authors today! Am trying to marshall enough brain power to comment intelligently over your way.
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Maupin and Wilde, though I am a fan of all the ones you've featured, though I have reservations about Camus, mostly for the unbearable pretentiousness of some of his readers.

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretentious and long-winded. Camus himself would have disliked them. Of course he would have been resigned to disliking them....... LOL!

Peace,

Bubba

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
ROTFL. Ah you have just taken me back twenty years with that comment ;-)

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well the very fact that you and I were both adults 20 years ago and the fact that we can laugh about that too is what is truly scary. We ain't gettin' any younger darlin'!

Schlafen Sie gut!

Bubba

okay, i refrained from commenting on your last post even though i wanted to because i was supposed to be in bed an HOUR ago, but i had to tell you that i work with a woman who is married to the head writer of spooks (i've never seen it) and i've met him. nice enough bloke. [*nods*] i think you'd like him. after all, you do seem to think up the same plots :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
(Does his current project have either shagging wizards or medieval mysteries?)

Yes, we should hang out, but only after I've hung out with you!

[identity profile] libby-drew.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's lacking something. An planet-destroying asteroid collision and killer plague, perhaps?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I can't decide if they're better for an H/D plot or for MI5 ...

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, now where have we heard that before? ;)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! It occurred to me today, His Dark Materials is actually steampunkish, too.

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone else just pointed that out to me. And you're absolutely right! It's also fantasy steampunk, in contrast to the other steampunk works which seem to be more SF. I don't generally find SF very engaging as a woman... it usually is written in a very male, action-oriented sort of style, and I prefer character-driven fiction.

Mind if I send you more LGC plot details for feedback?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Please do!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
So is Firefly/Serenity Steampunk, too?

I'm still trying to grasp my head around the concept.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
More space western. Doctor Who has some Steampunky elements ...

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha! Are you kidding?

You should totally slam those writers for stealing excellent plots and then chopping out the hot man sex.
:D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It looked like we were going to get a bit for a moment there, but then they started shooting instead. Bastards.

[identity profile] deensey.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I should really loan you the box set. It's a lovely show.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I will steal your DVDs for a change, and then forget to give them to you every time you come over ... oh, hang on, I've already done that ...

[identity profile] deensey.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, we can do it again!

hehehe... I am currently working my way through season two of Spooks and about to embark on S3. It's kind of like spy candy - you know it's not good for you and has no real nutritive value, but you just kind of keep shoveling it in anyway, and still manage to feel good about it.

*hugs*

*pets you for natural brilliance*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I am told it has hot men, that makes almost anything worthwhile.

[identity profile] grey-hunter.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yanno, last time I thought there was something... well, I hesitate to use the word intelligent... in the TV, it turned out to be a time-travel-into-the-past fic in which the main crisis involved those who remained in the present as they had to hurry up and repair the time machine in time for their people to be able to return. Um.
