Give me a hand ...

I was sitting at my desk quietly working today (on the dumbest story known to humankind), when an editor friend rushed in and said "Show me your hands!"
Convinced she was having an episode, we held ours up so that she could look at them. She grabbed mine. "Great! Can you hand model for me?"
I pointed out that my hands are old, fatter than they used to be, scarred and missing one knuckle that I smashed in one of my many cycle accidents. The art director said "No, that's fine, we can Photoshop the scars out! Your nails are good and you have long, slim thumbs."
In four decades, that is probably the oddest compliment I have ever received.
So for half an hour I held the product a little to the left, a little to the right, with one hand, with two, angled forward and angled back.
I now see why models have that vacant expression, they have been bored out of their minds (and are dreaming of a steak dinner).
I'll scan it in if I can lay my hands on a copy of the mag when it comes out. Certainly the oddest day in publishing I have had for a while.
On the other hand, it is very nearly my LJ anniversary. Good grief! It feels like three months/five years! Hopefully I will come armed with a present tomorrow (no, Mic, Annabel and other nice people, not the end of Fathers, but it is getting closer. Sorry.)
In the mean time, Happy Bastille Day!
