blamebrampton: (here to have fun)

I've only seen the first three episodes, but just rewatched the one where Merlin saves Gwen's father and Gwen is accused of sourcery. Looking at the scene where Arthur tells his father's council that there is no way Merlin could be a sourcerer, it seemed obvious to me that Arthur knows.

Is this the actual case or is Bradley James's skill in inappropriate levels of attractiveness rather than acting? And feel free to spoil away!

The latter.(COR!)

I'm pretty sure that Arthur does not know - though I doubt that he'll be surprised when he does find out.

SPOILER: XD No one knows. If Arthur does know, he's being quiet about it, which, really, is probably for the best. It's funnier to think he does know, but Merlin remains oblivious to Arthur's knowing. /spoiler

In other news, Bradley truly is just that attractive even with his facial blemishes. *snuggles him stupid* Oh to be in London today....

It does read to me as though Arthur knows and Merlin is oblivious to it, and you're quite right, it is funnier that way!

As to the prettiness ... I used to go out with a boy who was a moderate amount younger than me and that pretty. I had to break it off as I would just sit there looking at him while he tried to impress me with his (actually quite substantial) intellect. I just felt so awful about objectifying him ...

SPOILER - There is a later ep where Merlin uses magic in front of Arthur...I won't give it all away (I just can't spoil, even when given permission), but Arthur is clearly upset by the thought that it was Merlin using the magic.

We-ll, but you can also explain Arthur's anger away as:

1) Merlin, how can you be so stupid and blatantly use magic in front of me! Now I can't turn a blind eye anymore!

Or,

2) I've always been half-suspicious that there was something about you, but I thought you wouldn't keep such an important secret from me. I think of you as my friend. Clearly, the reverse is not true.

My personal take? Arthur has always been half-suspicious but he turns a blind eye so he doesn't feel like he's betraying Camelot and his father.

That's quite true. I've only seen the series once, and that was with my son and husband so they were somewhat distracting me. I probably should watch them all again by myself. I've found if I watch on the laptop vs the TV, I pick up on all kinds of things that I didn't the first time around.

Oh yes, plus you can pause & rewind when watching on the comp.

I hope the DVDs have subtitles. Lots of British ones don't =/

Watched episode four tonight, and I have to say that to me, BJ seems to be more where lilian_cho suggests below. But again, it could just be me being distracted by the pretty.

I didn't get that impression from the scene, actually. I just thought Arthur was panicking because he thought Merlin was being stupidly noble and chivalrous.

What indicated to you that Arthur knows?

I think Bradely plays Arthur very much on the surface. It works for me, I'll admit, because he's so adorable. It's not Made Men, lol.

When Merlin came in and confessed, Arthur's facial expression was immediate exasperation, not the surprise, realisation and then exasperation that I would have expected if he had not known. To me, it read as 'Oh bloody hell, how am I going to explain this one away?'

And he IS adorable!

Ah, yes. But I think it was meant to be read more as, "Oh man, Merlin's doing something stupidly noble again and I'm going to have to get him out of it." At that point, I think Arthur still believed Merlin was a bit of an idiot. I don't think he believed him interesting or powerful enough to be magical.

I think Arthur's reaction is more about him 'discovering' Merlin's feelings for Gwen. It's been a while since I've seen that ep, but as I recall, he gets a knowing look which I think is him 'getting' why Merlin confesses (similar to Morgana's misassumption later on in the tunnels.)

It could have been that, absolutely. It was just the way that Bradley played it read as though he was a little panicked, then had the bright idea of using Gwen as the excuse. Though it could *easily* be me reading things in!

Honey, if you're watching it for depth then you're doing it wrong. :D

Oh, and you were right - the overbite has grown on me to a rather dangerous degree. Then again, I am now oblivious to the ears and focussed on the dimples.

It may wear off, but currently I am finding myself incredibly bubbly-happy over this silly little show. Not so much for the show, although I find it charming and frivolous and sweet, but for the fun and squirm inducing fic, and also for the behind the scenes cast made home vids, which show them as delightful, quirky people. It just makes me wish I was 22 again.

Oh, and I have this incredible urge to make a Merlin fanvid to Garbage's Crush. Don't judge me. ;)

It IS charming! And the overbite is perfect. Orthodontists must be kept away from him!

"Sourcery"? Brammers!!!! I trust you to be letter-perfect! (It's "sorcery," dear, unless you're on Discworld.)

I think Arthur might suspect, but doesn't know for certain. And dear Bradley is much better at being ridiculously pretty than he is at acting. :D

Oh be fair, I am addicted to Pratchett, have genuine aphasia, and it was about 4am.

That scene read as though he is fairly convinced and thinks he is the only one who knows, so is responsible for covering it all up. And Bradley is so pretty that his acting could be better than Sir Ian's and he'd still have superior skills in prettiness.

Alas, we have no magic box, so TDT remains tantalisingly beyond my grasp. Oh, the injustice! I shall console myself by writing silly pervy crack!fic.
Blondie is...disturbed...by your pretty new icon (and he has rumbled me in my not-very-sneaky-at-all writing efforts). Much gigglin ensues...

Yes, I have been the target of personal attacks for my alleged evil cabal leading propensities, so it is basically a clear declaration of my real fandom interests.

Except for the rimming part. My friend Rai made it for us to use and she is very cheeky.

Not those cheeks.

And before you ask, yes, I am quite aware of the ridiculousness of me finding the time or organisational ability to form a cabal ;-)

But surely you have procured a Time Turner, for the purposes of going back and forming said evil fandom cabal while your 'past' self is occupied with your many and various good works!
Cheeky is good ;)
Also, you little doggy has always looked to me as though she is watching something quite energetic and pervy happening just out of frame...
