I need a tiny favour from those of you who still have access to your brains.

Could anyone who reads magazines and has a functioning visual memory please take a look at the cover of The Quibbler Luna is holding at this link here and tell me what famous and *obvious* real magazine cover the art direction mimics? It is driving me crazy!

In pleasant news, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
[personal profile] allifer and [profile] aqua_chuu ! Not just dead sexy, you two are great parts of the alpha section of my flist, and I hope that your birthdays are similarly A-grade and full of A-list gifts! Though not aardvarks, that would be weird ...

Yes I see the magazine and I can't quite place it either, but I keep thinking of the old fashioned Post magazine. The one that used to have all the dirty comics and the Ettamogah pub comic. Been to that pub actually....very strange...

I think it is something political or arty, so probably not the same ... but I will track that one down, too!

The immediate thought was: Entertainment Weekly (Sort of looks like the cover from the old Prisoner of Azkaban issue). But hey, maybe it's Psychology Today.

I see where you're going there, with the font choices in particular, but no, alas. The idea in my head is that it is something political, sciencey or arty. I even thought it might be an old Wired Cover for a bit, but after taking a look, no. Damn my lack of memory!

Well, it makes me think of The National Enquirer, which is the prototypical 'Aliens Ate my Bat-Baby After Dragging Me to Hell' tabloid. But it's also American, so probably not.

Nope, they have a much more cluttered art direction. I hate it when my brain says 'Oh hey! you know this! kind of! A bit! Actually, no ...'

I'd second that, actually. Had the same impression.

My first thought was TIME Magazine... Something about the layout.

There is a bit of the classic Time about it, especially in the placement of the coverlines, but the thing in my head even had the stripey background graphic. Buggeration!

It looks very much like our local "What's on in the Hills" magazine. I suspect that's not what you're after, though. *g*

Heh, no, but nice design for your local!

The mag looks a bit New Scientist to me: something that's purportedly all 'fact' rather than gossip, anyway.

(and I just accidentally posted that comment on the thread that the pic came from - that will be a bit random in someone's inbox!)

HAHAHAH! yay for random. Actually, yes, it does have a New Scientist vibe to it, I will look through my old copies on Sunday to see if I can spot one that fits the bill. Thanks!

It kind of reminded me of the New Yorker...

I can see that, with the graphical simplicity. But there is something that had even similar type, if only it would come to me.

Are you thinking of the 'Fortean Times?' It certainly fits the bill, as its a UK publication and it deals with the strange and paranormal.

No, though HAHAHAHA! It's something that has a really similar graphical construction, down to the sanserif masthead and top strap. Obviously, I need to spend a day in my library. Which I will have time to don in about 2020 ...

Reminds me of the old LIFE magazine.....or possibly the LOOK magazine. Gah! I just aged myself.
