Work is still absolutely stupid, but, on the upside:

* I had an excellent idea for a novel that is actually 10,000 times easier to write than the one I am working on, since it is set in the future rather than the past, so I can avoid exhaustive research and just make things up!

* I have a new computer! It has all my data on it! Nothing was lost! The people at the Sydney Mac shop are lovely! (Let us not speak of the money, I am focussing on the upside.)

* The fics are now being actively written.

* I have a red ostrich feather fan for the coming stinky hot weather.

* However, the weekend is scheduled to be cool.

* The G20 looks set to replace the G8! Yay!

* On this day, [personal profile] sassy_cissa was born, just a few years ago. The world has been bettter since then.

The new one is so lovely! Though I still love my old one, but it's dead, so meh ...

The fan is terrific! Alas, there are no shots of it on the internet, but it cheers me up and cools me down ;-) I think I will take it and the laptop outside for some serious writing over the next few weeks in a bid to stop having to work for crazy magazines.

And I cannot tell you how happy I am about the G20. We'll probably keep most of the same problems, but at least they will be more representative!

Yay for novels you find easy to write (and therefore do), I'm finally at a point in my life where reading for pleasure is an option again, and you've managed to work your way onto the list of top ten authors I'd read given the chance...

I'll send you a copy when it's done! It popped into my head while reading last week's New Scientist, and then this week's edition had a whole lot of stories that propelled the plot. It's a Sign!

Thanks, I'll look forward to it!

My favorite kind of story to write!

Hee! Having spent years working on the details of mediaeval battles, I think I need a break! Of course, now I am playing linguistic shift (will China or India have more of an effect on English?), but at least I have friends and dictionaries that can help immediately with that!

Pfft, the money is nothing for those specs. Remember, 7 hours battery life! And look, it only costs about three pairs of boots. ;)

It's so light and shiny! And the keys are more robust than on the old one, so I won't wear off letters ;-)

Congratulations on getting a new computer and having your
data saved. I hate computer glitches and problems.
I look forward to your wonderful stories.

Thank you very much! I had such a nice writing night last night, though it was spread too thinly. Will knuckle down and concentrate on finishing one at a time!

I cannot tell you my relief, Jadz! It is ENORMOUS! (The blow to the bank balance was, too, but eh ...)

Hooray!

re: fans, I have decided that next summer, I will singlehandedly bring fans AND parasols back into style in NYC. *nodnod*

It's not impossible! When I moved to Sydney I was nearly dead after my first few summer days, so I went to Chinatown and found a parasol. Now I buy one a year (more if I am using the paper ones) and have a collection of four or five that have lasted past their years.

At first, everyone just stared. Except for small girls who would clap their hands with glee and cry 'Parasol!' Then I saw a few other people with them. Then about two years ago I was walking up the hill to Newtown and a bevy of parasol-carrying girls walked past me coming down. It was a beautiful moment!

Fans have been more of a challenge; if you want them to catch on broadly start with something in paper or sandalwood. The big feathery ones entertain more, though.

I have added net gloves this year to see if I can bring them back (and to cover up the fact my hands are getting older ;-)

Ooh, gloves! You're a genius. If you can pull it all off in a city the size of Sydney, maybe I can swing it in New York.

It's been going well in its first week. People keep asking where I bought them and complimenting my outfits, which are in fact quite plain aside from the gloves.

At least you're coming into cooler weather when gloves are easy!

Yay for shiny new computers and red feather fans!!

And thanks for the wishes and the compliment alas it was many more than a few years ago. lmao

Only if looked at from an internet perspective! Not if looked from an historical perspective, and from a geological perspective, you've barely come out of your wrapper! On days when I am feeling like a wrinkly, I calculate my age against the solar system's ;-)

And YAY for you, too!
