Ah ... a good day, in most ways.

Work is still absolutely stupid, but, on the upside:
* I had an excellent idea for a novel that is actually 10,000 times easier to write than the one I am working on, since it is set in the future rather than the past, so I can avoid exhaustive research and just make things up!
* I have a new computer! It has all my data on it! Nothing was lost! The people at the Sydney Mac shop are lovely! (Let us not speak of the money, I am focussing on the upside.)
* The fics are now being actively written.
* I have a red ostrich feather fan for the coming stinky hot weather.
* However, the weekend is scheduled to be cool.
* The G20 looks set to replace the G8! Yay!

Date: 2009-09-25 02:12 pm (UTC)The fan is terrific! Alas, there are no shots of it on the internet, but it cheers me up and cools me down ;-) I think I will take it and the laptop outside for some serious writing over the next few weeks in a bid to stop having to work for crazy magazines.
And I cannot tell you how happy I am about the G20. We'll probably keep most of the same problems, but at least they will be more representative!

re: fans, I have decided that next summer, I will singlehandedly bring fans AND parasols back into style in NYC. *nodnod*

Date: 2009-09-26 05:19 am (UTC)At first, everyone just stared. Except for small girls who would clap their hands with glee and cry 'Parasol!' Then I saw a few other people with them. Then about two years ago I was walking up the hill to Newtown and a bevy of parasol-carrying girls walked past me coming down. It was a beautiful moment!
Fans have been more of a challenge; if you want them to catch on broadly start with something in paper or sandalwood. The big feathery ones entertain more, though.
I have added net gloves this year to see if I can bring them back (and to cover up the fact my hands are getting older ;-)
