The travels of Brammers, part 1

(Regular readers of this journal will say, 'But Brammers, you're always travelling, so the subject of this post is not as specific as it could be.' To them I say: 'Oh yes, NOW you're brilliant on details, but where were you when I was making appalling typos in fics half of you read?')
Sydney Airport is one of my least favourite airports. The people who work here are generally pleasant, the travellers who pass through it, on the whole, delightful. But the airport itself has a ring of … underservicing money-grubbing bastardry? Yes, that's the ring. This comes as no surprise when one considers the airport is owned by Macquarie, a group who describe themselves as 'wealth creators' and 'the millionaires' factory'. I describe them as GFC creators and irresponsible over-chargers who wouldn't know an appropriate salary if it fell on them.
Macquarie is one of the poster-companies for socialising risk and privatising profits, so it will come as no surprise that they are currently a bit, well, stuffed in the current financial climate. While this affords me a certain Schadenfreude, it means that Sydney Airport is filled with construction hoardings, since upgrades have slowed to a near-halt. I am sitting facing one now, it is not the most romantic sight in the traveller's world.
However, I have kissed Mr B and the kittens au revoir, I am possessed of all the possessions I require: I have MANY things to hand over to others, which will allow me to purchase a few things for myself so the suitcase is not foolishly empty on the return trip. I am a few steps closer to being sorted for every stage of my trip, and the first call for boarding has just been made.
So, travels ready to begin! If only I weren't coming down with a cold. Fingers crossed a good sleep and 1L of Evian water will see it off.
