Just had another scary Twitter follower appear

[livejournal.com profile] wemyss  and [livejournal.com profile] shezan , you in particular will laugh at this.

I have a Twitter account, which I rarely use and is under a different name. One of the people who is on my flist and on my Twitter list posted a link to my Aus politics in Harry Potter terms post of last month using my Twitter name – which was perfectly fine! A very small number of people put two and two together and followed my Twitter after reading the post. Very briefly in most cases, for reasons that I will outline.

Every single one of them has been a Conservative. A really, really conservative Conservative, not an I find Boris Johnson strangely appealing and do believe in free trade but not in a wholly unregulated market, dipping my little toe in the waters of conservatism but really a Bleeding-Heart Leftie type, like me.

In fact, most have been so scarily conservative that I have not been able to Follow them on Twitter because I would froth too much, and I prefer to use it as a medium to discuss hairstyles, local cafes, meet-ups and Bob Katter on Q&A.

Intrigued, I vanity-googled my post to see if they were all coming from somewhere, and discovered that there are people who read that post who are convinced I am a card-carrying socially wet, economically dry Liberal. Which for Americans would equate to a Reagan-era Republican before they turned all gung-ho and Rambo-esque, and for Brits equates to, er, Boris Johnson.

I am counting this as a win on the not trumpeting bias front. Alas, we have a government again now, though, as both sides have appointed the previous leaders to high ranking positions in a bid to 'get past all this messy leadership coup business', things are still entertaining.

And in related internet matters, thanks, [livejournal.com profile] fourth_rose !

I have nothing important to add to this discussion except to ask:

Did I get you into trouble somehow? Because I think I was the one who posted that thing on Twitter. Or was I the only one? I can't remember, Brammers! I'm sorry!

Also, "vanity-googling" should be an official verb. As well as other Google related activities. (If you'd care to make a dictionary, I'll help with its publicity.)

Sometimes, I wish I live in a country where the politics actually matter so I don't have to post stupid comments like this!

Oh dear, it's no trouble at all! My Twitter name is not my real name and it's linked to my fandom gmail, so there's no problem at all, aside from my amused boggling at the loonies!
