Because it bears repeating

In the broad church that is fandom, anon hate memes are the Westboro Baptists.

If you can't bring yourself to ignore them, make amusing signs, dress up as a super-hero, stage a same-sex kiss-in in response, but for the love of bunnies, don't let them get you down!

I have only met book!Sherlock, besides the versions who appeared in the 2009 film and the 2010 TV series, so I have little with which to compare Cumberbatch's coolly asexual Sherlock other than RDJ's rampant sex beast. I must say, I find both immensely appealing.

The Westboro Baptists would declare Blondie's family dangerous Bolsheviks. Steer clear!

O.o

O.o and ..|.. where the dots represent knuckles and the | represents a finger aimed at the WBC. Evil wackos with less grip on reality than that woman we usually use as our marker of the deranged.

And yes, they are both fabbo Sherlocks! (Though Brett and Rathbone are still in my heart, too!)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
I only came across it by accident, but they are muppets. If it brings the haters joy, good luck to them, but yet another of my friends has just been made a bit glum by the whole thing, so I'm a bit less live and let live than I would normally be.

I prefer it when haters pick on people like me, since I am usually oblivious, and when I notice, I just assume they must be idiots to miss my obvious brilliance (and hotness!)

Love memes are MUCH BETTER!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Cool! I will go and do some loving!

And that sounds pervier than I meant it to ...

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
You're a very sane human!

Evil wackos with less grip on reality than that woman we usually use as our marker of the deranged.

Oh, dear god!

Perhaps I should look into Brett and Rathbone. Am preoccupied with sobbing over rereading the Deathly Hallows this week, though.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, woman. Well, I suppose it's better than rewatching Children of Earth ...

Look, I'm not going to begrudge anyone a good old whinge, but yes, anonymous hate-ins on the internet are, well, a bit sad. Having said that, I am vigorously opposed to any of my friends being brought low by them, because they are numpties, and my flistees are lovely.

Re: <3

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And I love you, which just goes to show we have excellent taste.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
They've just been making a few of my flistees miserable. But it's like having Tony Abbott criticise you, or being hated by the Daily Mail, one should in fact be proud that one is disagreed with by the numpties!

[identity profile] treacle-tartlet.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I am a glutton for punishment, it's true.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
A five-minute show of support, if nothing else!

And yes, steer clear of the WBC, they're well manky.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
They're a good argument for marrying outside your parents' peer group ...

And they do bring people together in loathing them!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Love for you too, miss!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, to be disparaged by those that you have no respect for or laugh at is like wearing a badge of honour.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I am SO tempted to start a religion. I have the outfits designed and everything ...

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sing it, sister! And oh, I feel like that icon, but that's work ...

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
HUEY! It was not an invitation for you to go and look at yet another bunch of eejits!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
People who don't like bunnies are beyond me.

I love fandom, there are a few mean bits, but we should all just ignore them and they will either go away or else enjoy themselves being bitter in the corner.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You and hate memes are not to be thought of in the same sentence -- nor are you and the WBC. In a nice response, though, the WBC has been bringing people together in anti-protests, which is good!

Thankfully, we don't -- at least not in any major, organized way.

The closest equivalent (on a political, not religious base) would be the various, seemingly "concerned" groups like Pro NRW*, IMO.

I was thinking of Aktion Ulm 70 and the Europäische Ärzteaktion and other such right-wing Christian groups. Unfortunately, there are loads of them in Germany. And some of them are rather organised, too. *sigh*

Ugh. Thankfully, those nutcases have escaped my notice so far -- and I'm lucky enough to have pastors with fairly liberal views! (Unfortunately, I must admit to being acquainted with our local head neo-nazi politician; he's a friend's cousin, so there are a few social occasions where I can't escape ...)

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The Europäische Ärzteaktion was rather active in the 80ties. Have you heard of the anti-abortion movie "Der stumme Schrei"? The Europäische Ärzteaktion produced and distributed it. Back then, we organised quite a few protests against them whenever they were spewing their propaganda at quaint church meetings.

And OMG, what a bizarre situation to be in ...

That movie title rings a distant bell ... I probably ignored it because I didn't want to clutter up my head with so much asshattery. :) And as I said, our pastors (past and present) wouldn't allow such stuff on the premises.

As for that idiot, yeah. It's not always easy to completely avoid Max in a group of 20 or so guests, but we either change the subject or blatantly ignore him when he starts spewing his drivel. At least his wife is bearable and rather sensible, but he's already drawn his oldest son into the party with him. *shudders* But what can you expect of a guy who still refers publicly to "Polacks" and named his three children Gerald, Arnulf and Alrun? (Seriously. Guess he used the Nibelung Saga for inspiration ...)
