In the broad church that is fandom, anon hate memes are the Westboro Baptists.

If you can't bring yourself to ignore them, make amusing signs, dress up as a super-hero, stage a same-sex kiss-in in response, but for the love of bunnies, don't let them get you down!

Thankfully, we don't -- at least not in any major, organized way.

The closest equivalent (on a political, not religious base) would be the various, seemingly "concerned" groups like Pro NRW*, IMO.

I was thinking of Aktion Ulm 70 and the Europäische Ärzteaktion and other such right-wing Christian groups. Unfortunately, there are loads of them in Germany. And some of them are rather organised, too. *sigh*

Ugh. Thankfully, those nutcases have escaped my notice so far -- and I'm lucky enough to have pastors with fairly liberal views! (Unfortunately, I must admit to being acquainted with our local head neo-nazi politician; he's a friend's cousin, so there are a few social occasions where I can't escape ...)

The Europäische Ärzteaktion was rather active in the 80ties. Have you heard of the anti-abortion movie "Der stumme Schrei"? The Europäische Ärzteaktion produced and distributed it. Back then, we organised quite a few protests against them whenever they were spewing their propaganda at quaint church meetings.

And OMG, what a bizarre situation to be in ...

That movie title rings a distant bell ... I probably ignored it because I didn't want to clutter up my head with so much asshattery. :) And as I said, our pastors (past and present) wouldn't allow such stuff on the premises.

As for that idiot, yeah. It's not always easy to completely avoid Max in a group of 20 or so guests, but we either change the subject or blatantly ignore him when he starts spewing his drivel. At least his wife is bearable and rather sensible, but he's already drawn his oldest son into the party with him. *shudders* But what can you expect of a guy who still refers publicly to "Polacks" and named his three children Gerald, Arnulf and Alrun? (Seriously. Guess he used the Nibelung Saga for inspiration ...)
