SORTED! Thank you! (Leaving the post up so J will know how much she is missed when she finally has a chance to read her flist. HEAPS!)

The fabbo [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove  who usually suffers through beta-ing my fics is holidaying in the wilds where the internets come and they go. I do have a brilliant local back-up beta-ette, but she is up to her nose in late fics of her own and her mind is hiding behind the water heater and refusing to come out. Meanwhile, I have a super-secret fic mission that has a very short deadline. I would love to give details at this point, but if I told you, I would have to kill you. Also, I am still writing, so there are no actual details.

Is anyone available to beta over the next week? I am happy to send bits as they are done, or the whole thing when there is one. It's going to have some jokes, probably some politics, pretty much squick- and sex-free, likely one or two hideously shameful puns, very likely to sail as close to the wind as humanly possible when it comes to the actual deadline. Almost certainly a couple of outrageous simple typos in the middle of some beautifully spelled tricky bits, because that's what I do. As to length, er, more than 9000, fewer than 30,000 words. Probably.

If you're snowed in and looking for something that's more of a challenge than your 47th game of Solitaire for the week, this could be something diverting! Even if you only feel comfortable proofreading, that's what I need most and I will just wear the blame for any dodgy structure (which is always my own fault, anyway). As to what's in it for you, it's really just a warm inner glow, but there's the possibility I will one day get my act together enough to post you Violet Crumble. Thank you! And feel free to email me if you would like to hide the fact you read fanfic. Yes, you know who you are. blamebrampton@gmail.com

That would be fabulous! Could I grab an email? I can send you the first 3K now, with no expectation of seeing it back for a few days.

Oh, darling, count me in. The thing I'm working on must be submitted tomorrow or not at all, and I could do with something to do while I'm marooned at Blondie's parents' house over Christmas!

HURRAH! I did not want to bully you into things because I know you have been up to your nose in Things That Must Be Done. Right, now for some sleeping, and then for some more writing ...

*chuckles* Nice bribe. (My husband and I are lucky that there is an upscale/somewhat specialty grocery store near us here in California that carries the stuff, and we I don't have to content ourselves with Crunchie bars from the local import-store chain, which are not at all the same thing.)

Not at all! Crunchies are well and good, but Violet Crumble has vastly superior honeycomb :-)

Googling Violet Crumble has led me to think of them as crazily fresh candy bars with a marshmellow taste?? How confusing.

Have you ever had sponge candy? It's crunchy almost biscuit-like sugar encased in chocolate. It is divine!

....I've had sponge cake?

Hmmm.... no not even close. lol. It's a rare person I run across that knows of sponge candy because it's basically found around Buffalo, NY, where I'm from originally, but it's very nearly the same thing as Violet Crumble. They both defy description I think, but if you can imagine caramelized sugar whipped to a foam then baked to crunchy goodness, embraced by a thin layer of chocolate. When you bite into what is usually a little cube, the crunchy sugar melts on your tongue and mixes with the chocolate... so good!

It's a fine-grained hard honeycomb in chocolate, so yummy. As you can see from Jadzia's comment, I am converting the world one person at a time ;-)

What is this beta of which you speak? Is it like beta testing software?

Not unlike. It's a term used for editing in fandom. Why, I have no idea.
