[livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet  sent me one of these!  It's a Moomin gingerbread house kit, and you can see a completed version of the house here, though the kit comes with cutters for Moonintroll, Moominmama and Moominpapa, and Lilla My rather than figurines. The instructions on the back come in Swedish and Finnish, which is interesting for translation purposes -- I now have the Finnish for egg firmly in my head as well as the chorus of the little piggies song!

Anyway, treacle has once again proved SHE KNOWS ME TOO WELL! Also, people popping in over the cooler months will now be subjected to barbecue and moomin gingerbread, instead of the usual plates of macarons. You have been warned!

That is AMAZING.

Coincidentally enough, I'm off to London to see shocolate and our friends, and I've brought out my moomin bag.

YIPPEE! I have been thinking I need to buy myself a Moomin bag, if it means that we will be bag twins, even more incentive. On the topic of bags, what address should I be sending the sewn Wiggly ones to? Nearly finished my bundle!

I approve!

I also have a set of Muumi ginger bread cutters like these, actually I have two sets, since several people thought it was the perfect gift. And how right they are.

I've got two of those cutters as well, my husband bought them for me. As well as cups, spoons and big plushies of different Moomin characters.

I also own a copy of every edition of Moomin books published in Polish.

Yes, I am obsessed, why ask? XD

I didn't even know I needed one of those, until now. Now, oh how I covet a moomin gingerbread kit!

That was exactly my feeling when I opened the wrapping! Except that I did not need to covet one! I found a shop in Finland that sells them, clearly we need an excursion.

I have found a shop in Finland that has them, maybe we need a Fandom Excursion to buy Moomin materials?

Ok, I will be the first to admit I don't know what this things are. Are they characters from cartoons? Kids toys?
They look adorable.

They're characters from a series of childrens' books by Tove Jansson. I remember them from my own childhood in the 60s aand recently found a website which seems to list most of the books printed:

http://www.moomintrove.com/

ISTR there was also a cartoon series on telly.

I thought these were a well hidden secret in my parts of the world. I didn't know you knew them at all.

It's a great gift! The instructions are in English as well I hope, if not I'll have to translate them for you. (From Swedish that is, not Finnish.)

Tragically, I am sub-literate in Swedish and almost illiterate in Finnish. I recognised congratulations from cards from Finnish friends, and I know the words for Moomin and gingerbread house -- not the most useful vocab, I know! ;-)

But I do know a song that raitala taught me:
Porsaita äidin oomme kaikki
oomme kaikki, oomme kaikki.
Porsaita äidin oomme kaikki,
oomme kaikki, kaikki.
Sinä ja minä,
sinä ja minä.

Imagine, if you will, pingrid, calanthe and I mortifying raitala with loud exclamations of 'oomme kaikki, kaikki!' (She secretly loved it.)

Congratulations, Blamebrampton. The gingerbread Moomin house is a very charming gift. :)

It's always a pleasure to read the words of a lovely children's song about mommy's piglets! I'm sure Raitala loved hearing it. Who wouldn't? :D

I never realised that Raitala is Finnish. Even though her username is a Finnish surname. Now THAT is mortifying. I suppose I need to read some more H/D fics to get over it.

Btw I have a new addiction. I love to watch The Big Bang Theory. My inner Sheldon enjoys seeing a person who is almost as neurotic as I am. ;) Did you know that 73 per cent of Americans believe in creationism? If that's not astonishing (and even slightly scary) I don't know what is.

Also, belated happy birthday! I feel horrible for missing it, and humbly beg forgiveness.

That is so many kinds of wonderful. I have fond memories of reading the books when I was young. Must get them out again!

I'll come over for any and all Moomin gingerbread experiences!
