Have snot ... and Pimms!

One thing I often tell people is not to break their foot. It's bad for you. You should also not break your nose. You should especially not break your nose to the point that you end up with a deviated septum, because if you get a cold, sometimes you end up with sinuses full of snot for days if not weeks on end and it is both disgusting and unpleasant.

Now that you are all either moving on to the next person on your flist or going 'EWWWW!', ROYAL WEDDING DAY IS HERE! This is grand news for three reasons. 1. We had an early mark to go home and watch. 2. Some genius brought Pimms into work and there is an unusual degree of sozzledness at this end. 3. Minor royals and their terrible fashions!

The ABC has started with its BBC coverage, and Huw the Unhappy. At least their Random People to Question are a bit more pertinent than the few minutes of Channel 9 coverage I saw. There's Kate's head master from school, bless him. 'She's nice, her family are nice, yay nice!' is the gist of his commentary.

I'm tremendously tempted to liveblog it as though it were Eurovision, but to be honest, I am here so that I can drink some hot choc out of my terrifically tacky commemorative mug and giggle at the hats. Ladies -- never wear a hat bigger than your shoulders to an indoor event. All else aside, it makes navigation and seating awkward.

Clearly the producers are playing a drinking game -- Harry is taken care of, there have been two Rons, let's hope Hermione Norris is there somewhere!

Well, William is allegedly a Potter fan - I like to imagine that he arranged this game to amuse himself and fellow Potter fans.

Prince Harry has a teeny tiny scar drawn onto his forehead just beneath his hairline ;-)

[identity profile] emmacmf.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
He would totally do that.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
He would! Bless his naughty cotton socks.

[identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
If there is a Hermoine, I'll be breaking out a drink myself.... That would be one very very planned drinking game!

I was reminded significantly of the Ball Scene in GoF as well with all the hats as well.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
We are all going to be appalling by the time the vows break out.

[identity profile] emmacmf.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
PHILLIP SCHOFIELD JUST STARTED TALKING ABOUT DRINKING GAMES.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Charles looks emotional -- DRINK! The Duke of Edinburgh offends a minority group -- DRINK! Camilla looks as though she were quietly wishing she were elsewhere ...

[identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
And people say the Monarchy are a boring bunch.....

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
I would never say that. Princess Michael of Kent alone is endlessly amusing.

[identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
I agree! They are fantastic at giving us entertainment, much like their country's parliament elections....

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god ... the AV brouhaha! OOH! is that hat hair or is Harry starting to thin on top? Sorry, easily distracted by the possibility of fading pretty. Someone buy him Rogaine!

[identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed that too :P I never actually realised it, but he has quite the reddish tint to his hair, doesn't he?

Wonder what genetics that came from...

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Philip was a bit red/blond as a lad, so it's not necessarily a red flag, as it were ;-)

[identity profile] emmacmf.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Everytime they mention Princess Diana, take a drink - everytime Kate is called a commoner, drink ... Royal wedding drinking game.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
They keep not saying 'Diana', rather 'their mother who is so sadly not here', 'that terrible tragedy', 'the loss they have borne so bravely ...' I would pay money for someone to say 'the caring but silly woman who should have buckled up'.

[identity profile] emmacmf.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
She simply didn't have a thick enough skin to deal with the pressure of a very odd family. I like to think her sons have inherited enough of her kind spirit to balance out the Royal family emotional awkwardness.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so. Very sad that she died so young, though. Everything else aside, her kids were v young and it is v hard to lose a parent at that age, especially one who was very good and close. I joke about it, but I really do wish she had had the good sense to put her seatbelt on.

[identity profile] emmacmf.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, incredibly sad, and I know first hand how hard it is to lose a parent young. She would have been fifty this year - she should be here today watching her son get married and beaming with pride. Such a sad sad waste of a lovely, caring woman who managed to give her children something of a normal childhood, despite their birthright.

I also think her age would have been an issue. It seems that she didn't have much support from her own family, and she was married at 19. Her early growing up years was done in front of the media, in that formality and emotional awkwardness, and .. guh. Atleast Kate and William are nearly 30!

That being said, TVNZ kept on saying Dianna- not "their mother", etc so that's an interesting thought.

-waves- Uh, I don't think I introduced myself when I jumped in the thread. Sorry! Hi!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think you are right about the differences in age -- lots more equality in this marriage.

The UK media are now saying 'Diana' a lot in reference to fashion. Apparently that's OK. I think they're still embarrassed about the whole OTT spectacle after her death.

Yes, she was so very young, and only had the chance to find out who she was when the marriage started falling apart. Hopefully Kate has had the chance to settle into being herself, and the two of them are going into this fully aware of the pressures of being a Royal couple.

*waves back* Hi!!
