One thing I often tell people is not to break their foot. It's bad for you. You should also not break your nose. You should especially not break your nose to the point that you end up with a deviated septum, because if you get a cold, sometimes you end up with sinuses full of snot for days if not weeks on end and it is both disgusting and unpleasant.

Now that you are all either moving on to the next person on your flist or going 'EWWWW!', ROYAL WEDDING DAY IS HERE! This is grand news for three reasons. 1. We had an early mark to go home and watch. 2. Some genius brought Pimms into work and there is an unusual degree of sozzledness at this end. 3. Minor royals and their terrible fashions!

The ABC has started with its BBC coverage, and Huw the Unhappy. At least their Random People to Question are a bit more pertinent than the few minutes of Channel 9 coverage I saw. There's Kate's head master from school, bless him. 'She's nice, her family are nice, yay nice!' is the gist of his commentary.

I'm tremendously tempted to liveblog it as though it were Eurovision, but to be honest, I am here so that I can drink some hot choc out of my terrifically tacky commemorative mug and giggle at the hats. Ladies -- never wear a hat bigger than your shoulders to an indoor event. All else aside, it makes navigation and seating awkward.

Everytime they mention Princess Diana, take a drink - everytime Kate is called a commoner, drink ... Royal wedding drinking game.

They keep not saying 'Diana', rather 'their mother who is so sadly not here', 'that terrible tragedy', 'the loss they have borne so bravely ...' I would pay money for someone to say 'the caring but silly woman who should have buckled up'.

She simply didn't have a thick enough skin to deal with the pressure of a very odd family. I like to think her sons have inherited enough of her kind spirit to balance out the Royal family emotional awkwardness.

I hope so. Very sad that she died so young, though. Everything else aside, her kids were v young and it is v hard to lose a parent at that age, especially one who was very good and close. I joke about it, but I really do wish she had had the good sense to put her seatbelt on.

Oh, incredibly sad, and I know first hand how hard it is to lose a parent young. She would have been fifty this year - she should be here today watching her son get married and beaming with pride. Such a sad sad waste of a lovely, caring woman who managed to give her children something of a normal childhood, despite their birthright.

Oh, we're coming over all emotional now ... I'm going to sniff and get back to giggling at the hats. Who's Andrew with today? Mystery brunettes everywhere today!

Eugenie and Beatrice's hats are amusing, though I feel sorry for whoever is going to be sitting behind them!

Bridesmaids!

I just saw the page boys, bridemaids and a closer look on Kate's dress.

I approve! Very lovely, the kids look cute and the address is very classic! Classy enough that it isn't understated, but not frilly either.

And I am guessing, its not a long, long, long, long train either.....

I like her dress - the fact that she has sleeves means that should I marry Dan Radcliffe in the next decade, there will be plenty of dresses with sleeves to hide my bingo wings!

She has myrtle in her boquet. HARRY POTTER FANS.

Yes! It's almost as though she is having to remind herself that good behaviour will be rewarded with cake and pressies, bad behaviour with going to bed early.

I also think her age would have been an issue. It seems that she didn't have much support from her own family, and she was married at 19. Her early growing up years was done in front of the media, in that formality and emotional awkwardness, and .. guh. Atleast Kate and William are nearly 30!

That being said, TVNZ kept on saying Dianna- not "their mother", etc so that's an interesting thought.

-waves- Uh, I don't think I introduced myself when I jumped in the thread. Sorry! Hi!

I think you are right about the differences in age -- lots more equality in this marriage.

The UK media are now saying 'Diana' a lot in reference to fashion. Apparently that's OK. I think they're still embarrassed about the whole OTT spectacle after her death.

From: [identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com
Definitely. The "obey" part of the vow, would have created quite the controversy in Diana's marriage, I'm imagining. Now, the Arch-Bishop? Bishop? is saying that is relatively common and would have been unusual if it was in William and Kate's vows. So not only a generational and world shift, this wedding has been organised by them, not the Royal Family. This would definitely add to the equality stakes.

Probably, in terms of being embarrassed about the spectacle.. It was a year after my Dad died and I can remember just being astounded by the spectacle her death caused, particularly when it seemed more about the political factor etc, than about her dying. And its still brought up now, 14 years after...

Yes, she was so very young, and only had the chance to find out who she was when the marriage started falling apart. Hopefully Kate has had the chance to settle into being herself, and the two of them are going into this fully aware of the pressures of being a Royal couple.

*waves back* Hi!!

From: [identity profile] shadowedkit.livejournal.com
I think she has, she's had different interests to William and the Royal Family has definitely given William the chance to experience life etc, before settling into marriage. As a side-effect, Kate's had the chance to be with William without the focus of being the wife of a future King. Hopefully, with both of them going into their 30s, they are able to settle into the new marriage and their futures in the Royal Family successfully, and easily.

Duchess of Cornwall, I'm impressed. That is a lovely dress/suit. (And a nice hat for once!)
