Panda Impersonators, represent!

The dark circles under my eyes have reached epic proportions. In fact, were it not for the good advice recently offered by flistees on under-eye concealer, one could be mistaken for wondering if the panda breeding programme in Adelaide had met with some success. As it is, it's a ten-minute make-up job before I can leave the house, unless I want to attract the sympathy of strangers as the day carries on. I would whine about the work that is causing this, but even I would be bored.
It's flogging down in Sydney at the moment, and has been for a few days. I even caught a cab to work this morning, because I was so wet by the time I made it to the street (40 metres) that I could foresee squishy feet at the end of a 15 minute walk. The driver was Kenyan and so we had a good chat about the East African Drought and Famine at the same time as he tried to convince me I should take the day off because I have an earache. Alas, I also have a thousand things to do and tartan earmuffs that keep the pain at manageable levels, so work it was. Though in my absence the house developed at least two leaks. Happily, we still have clean buckets inside after the Great Vomiting Saga.
The excellent news of the day was that I heard back from my soon-to-be ukulele teacher! We need only decide on a date and the next step in my progress will begin! Have so far learned all natural notes, all major chords, half the minor chords and all the 7ths. Can play Aura Lee competently, Someone Like You poorly, and Over the Rainbow reasonably well, but am woeful at figuring out The Biggest Aspidistra in the World. I have a digital recorder on my shopping list for this month, soon, my pretties, soon you will be subjected to the horror that is! (And your little dog, too!)
Now to go and try to finish a pinch-hit. I think that finishing Fathers might have used up all my finishing energy for the month ... must crack on, it can be done!

Date: 2011-07-21 02:25 pm (UTC)Cannot wait for the magic sounds of your ukulele! I wonder if one can play Handel on the ukulele?
And I wonder if the pinch-hit is your traditional pairing, or something different?

Date: 2011-07-22 09:33 am (UTC)I am sure one can, but that one is unlikely to be me for some time. But I do have my first lesson on Wednesday, and I am trying to puzzle out a Mumford and Sons tune in the interim.
It's H/D ... yours was the most interesting pinch-hit I was ever given. I need time so I can do some more writing in the 70s and early 80s!

Date: 2011-07-22 09:31 am (UTC)When I was a little girl, we travelled a lot and I knew lots of different people who were all unlike each other. My parents may have left me with no knowledge of where my spleen is and the eye make-up skills of a three-year-old gibbon, but at least they taught me that human beings are mostly interesting and decent. So I give them gold stars ;-)
