I had a theory that there would be another chapter of Tidings of Comfort today.

And that laughter you are currently enjoying is my gift to you :-)

Maybe by St Hilary's Day?

I hope you're all having a most wonderful time. We have had a lovely and calm one, with Christmas salmon and a ridiculous amount of chocolate. I did set fire to the kitchen very briefly – a teatowel, really – but had it well under control when Mr B came in, picked it up and tossed it out the back door, proclaiming, 'It's raining!' Which it has been constantly since last night.

I am not joking about the chocolate. I asked Mr B for a Fitbit and electric keyboard. I received instead some lovely jewellery and this:

That frog is about 10 inches long. He will be receiving a lovely new desk chair when it arrives, and has a new game of Kubb. Which Cookie has laid claim to:

She is still sitting on the open bag. Apparently she is super keen on Scandinavian games!

Buon Natale to all!

PS It really is raining solidly, and has been humid for weeks. Our house is too small for a tree, so I hang the ornaments on termporary hooks on the wall. One by one the removable adhesives have been failing, so Christmas Day ended and Boxing Day has begun to the relentless sound of gravity working upon ornaments. It's like the sound of paeonies splatting in the summer heat ;-)

Merry Christmas! Your game looks interesting - how does it work? Child 2 received Quoridor, which turns out to be quite fiendish for two players.

It's a bit complicated, and Mr B is the one who really knows how to play it, but basically you set up a playing field with the corner pegs about 5 x 8m, and then you put a big wooden block in the middle and then array the smaller wooden soldier blocks along the base line of your 'side'. The remaining bits are the throwing sticks.

You start by throwing sticks to see who will go first, then that team or person gets four throws to knock down as many of their opponent's soldiers as possible using an underarm straight throw. Any that are knocked down must be tossed over by the other team into the first team's side once the round is done, they are then stood up to become new soldiers for that side.

The second team gets six throws, as does every turn thereafter. You must knock down any captured soldiers on the opposing team before you can knock down the original baseline soldiers.

The goal of the game is to knock down all the opponent's soldiers and then you can knock down the King. First to kill the King wins!

There are some other rules about moving up on the playing field and so on, but I can never get them right. Like croquet, it is both better and worse to play with a drink or two ;-)

Quoridor looks like loads of fun, but I've never played it. Mr B is not as keen on board games as I am, so I have to get him outside playing games with potential violence :-)

I managed to marry a man who is as obsessed with board games as me :) outdoor games are good in summer, so I will be keeping an eye out for your one.

I got a handbag pannier for pedalling around Cambridge looking cool and collected and no longer sweaty-backed! Shock horror, useful presents!

Merry Christmas to you too :)

I love how asking for a Fitbit results in chocolate :D

Aw, I want a Kubb...

Speaking of chocolate: there's this chocolate sold in there, it's koala-shaped and filled with melted caramel. Now, I'm not usually a fan of caramel, but I lurve~ it when it comes with that chocolate. Every time somebody I know plan to visit Australia, I make them hunt down those chocolates for me.

And now I want one.

Oh and geez, I completely forgot, Happy Christmas to you too! Mine is even quieter, actually. No presents this year, can't afford 'em, but we have good food!

Not at all! And good food and good friends are the key to the season, not the gifts :-)

Do you really want the Kubb or just the fluffy cat sitting on it? :-) She is a great dear, though she always wants to sit on the thing that is needed.

That's a Caramello Koala! I can send you some as soon as it gets to a point where it won't be melted in a heatwave (today or tomorrow would be the safest days in months, alas, everything shut.)

Embarrassingly, I've two sets of treats to send abroad that have been waiting for a year because I have lacked the combination of money for post, time to get to the post office, and days on which chocolate is not liquid!

So that's what it's called!

Aw, you got some warm weather? It's really chilly here in Indonesia for some reason. I'm in socks and hoodie and wishing I can find my barely-ever-used mittens, lol.

I won't lie, I'd love to get that chocolate, but please, only do it if it's not an inconvenience to you in anyway.

First of all - Happy Christmas! :)

It's been way too warm around here for this time of the year. We've had sun and + 15°C yesterday where it's supposed to be snowy and cold.
We don't have a tree either, we instead cut off a branch from a huge one outside and brought it in to decorate it. It looks very nice.

Also - Lindt bears! :D

My Melbourne friend whines all year that she wants some rain. She also mumbled something about my birthday+xmas present being late due of ... snow?
Teatowels are the only thing I burn trying to put out the fires I create via the help of chemicals on other objects. I just mentally checked what textile I could grab with least remorse if a candle I just put up attacks its surroundings.
And my Kobold would so very much like Cookie's whiskers (she currently manages to have 3 that are about 2cms in short and haven't been removed by her sister yet).

A very merry Christmas to you and J! It's blissfully mild (and non humid) in Canberra, you should come and visit!

Pats to Cookie et al. My boys have kindly refrained from sitting on the pressies they gave me which included a Miss Fisher Cluedo set:) I shall be testing it out with Ms A and Mr Squish in a few days time.

Enjoy chocolate, Kubb, and the teatowels which survived the Christmas sparkle incident.....:)
