Lovely editorial assistant who we are all so fond of: And so I'll be doing my honours this year …
Lovely team: Oooh! What on?
LEAWWAASFO: Harry Potter fan fiction and fan communities.
Me: [Momentary eye widening] I know an English Professor in New Jersey whose work touches on similar materials, would you like me to see if he has time to chat?
LEAWWAASFO: Ooh, yes please!
Me: Triff! Must dash! [Muffled laughter from offstage.]

[livejournal.com profile] suttonwriter, would you have time to talk to a lovely young woman? I am going to introduce her to Sherlock, too, because she was wanting to talk about how fan communities influence creators, and it seemed like the most obvious bet.

And if one of you out there happens to BE our LEAWWAASFO, surprise! And SSSSSSSSSHHHH!

In other news, North America, I have found all your heat! It's here! So tired, so unable to sleep … Stay warm you lot, stay cool our lot, you chaps back home stay dry, and you Scandinavians, well, at least you can get some work done outside.

Wrt fan communities influencing creators, another [totally unsolicited] example is the most recent run of Young Avengers. Intensely. The writers and artists interact with fans, especially on tumblr, have the characters using platforms like tumblr and instagram, etc. and write these things well. They seem to realize a large portion of their readership is queer, and have confirmed 80% of the team are queer, in-book (unlike JKR's post coming out party for Dumbledore, y'know). It is not... without problems, but. She should check it out.

I'm not sure about influencing so much as constant interaction with fans on social media, but Hannibal, Teen Wolf, Elementary, and Sleepy Hollow (admittedly all American shows) all have significant followings and presence in the fandom.

It's been warmer in the past few days, so I hope that means you are in for a cooler week as well. :)

I am almost inclined to track down Sleepy Hollow fandom just so I can find out how they make EVERY actor's skin look so beautiful on camera. The lighting team are brilliant: they make everyone glow with luminous loveliness! Unless it's genius make-up, or they are the healthiest cast in the history of the world …

Yes, thanks. Would you like som rain? We have some extra to spare... Scene from today at 3 p.m.:
-argh! I'm drenched through all four of my jumpers.
-me too. Except I'm only wearing three jumpers and a fleece jacket. I thought it wasn't going to rain for a few hours.
*goes on shoveling mud away from the grave we're excavating* a few minutes later:
-oooh, look! Blue sky! And the SUN!
-where! Where!
-just between that cloud and the trees!
-Oh yes, I see it. Wait, no. Now it's setting. Crap! At least we saw it today.

We have been getting a lot of snow the last few days. Finally! And with a lovely -5 deg. C to go along, we have perfect skiing conditions now. Yay! \o/

Your LEAWWAASFO is awesome! :D

Well, in Germany the lack of winter is kind of ... not even sure what to think of it. We do have an ounce of snow today, but it looks like it might go soon. Winter is not what we would usually call that kind of ... strange thing happening outside.

I would find it difficult to beliebe that someone who works with blamebrampton could fail to recognize her writing if they stumbled upon that primer...

Oh! Oh, you're near Elizabeth. That's about... an hour from here. (To find me, you can roughly hop on 202 and head west until you hit the Delaware.) I'm in graduate school, but sadly not for writing.

I wonder... would it be too much to ask for some advice as to how I could learn to be a better writing without actually enrolling in a writing program? I don't have any available to me right now, but I desperately want to improve. And I think I need some guidance. If it's too much, don't worry! Thank you for being so open, though!

Sorry about the typos. I was excited and typing too fast.

It was a scorcher, but it was dry heat. So, at least wehn I sweated it evaporated instead of making me feel slimy. I would have been good if I could have been sitting under a tree with a spray bottle of water, a hat and a cold drink. (It's the same kind of heat I grew up with)

But, yes, after Sydney's weather run so far, it was a bit shocking. Been a while.

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to this. I was in a week of training sessions then, which was quickly followed up by the start of classes and someone opening the Casket of Ancient Winters on New Jersey.

I'll be glad to talk to her, though I'm pretty new with the scholarship myself. If nothing else, I can be another sounding board that can't fail her.

Also, happy early (or on time, if I'm doing my usual wonderful job of remembering how the time change works) birthday. May it be great fun.

You were exactly on time :-)

And it's been lovely, though I need to fall over and sleep. Is it OK if I give her your email?

Sure. Ask her to tell me she's Brammer's friend, so I'll remember who s/he is.
