As the kids say …
Rowling be trolling.
But goodness gracious, what a way to prove that fandom isn't dead!
In other news, life eaten by writing, sewing, reading The Luminaries (halfway through and loving it) and kitten. Do you have any idea how much slower everything is with a kitten in the house? Not to mention the compensatory pats and brushings for the other cats!

And I KNOW. I have not been putting half the effort into rehoming him that I should …

I a amused at all the kerfuffle. I've been shipping non canon for so long, if JKR turned round and said HGLMSS was now canon, I'd giggle and still not care.

But wow, fandom has exploded out of hibernation!

*has no clue what you're otherwise talking about* the level of my out-of-it-ness seems to increase :/

"But goodness gracious, what a way to prove that fandom isn't dead."
Perhaps she did it just to make us wake up a bit?
I'm mostly just annoyed. I like Harry and Hermione as friends, and I think it takes away from Hermione as a character to try and fit her into the standard geeky-girl-turns-romantic-interest mold.
But this does explain why JKR wasn't able to write Harry/Ginny in a half way believable manner. She didn't even believe it herself!

I love that HP's Main Girl(TM) didn't end up with The Hero, and that they have a lovely, platonic relationship (that I find sibling-like in nature at times, even). It's very rare that we get to have a subversion of that trope.
But then, this I'm an HD shipper, what do I know? :P

Exactly! And I really like(d) that about Harry Potter.

(And I, too, wondered what long-term prospects Ron and Hermione might've had, but I don't suppose it really matters since somewhere between the war's end and the epilogue they clearly found enough in each other as adults to make it work).

Also! I was literally just thinking before you posted this entry that you'd been strangely AWOL, and was considering sending you an email along the lines of, 'Brammers! Where have you been all my life?' but here we are! Glad you are alive and kicking!

(And yeah, I just always assumed he grew up, she learned patience and they both worked at it.)

Right? That's true! Fandom is so far from dead! It just needed a bit of an electric shock. :)

The beastie boys have discovered Cat TV: they're now glued to my bedroom windows every night watching the bats flitter past.

I am just very happy and relieved to learn that you were not the woman on the news the other night that was hit by the bus in Sydney.
Your kitty has the same look on his face as my parents new master. It says "Why are you doing something other than rubbing my tummy?"

I was wondering if she was trying to stimulate sales:)

So this news is driving me crazy! Because I'd resigned myself to never getting to read it (well done, like I want it) and now I wonder if someone might write it...
I like all the stuff you said about Harry and Hermione having a platonic bff thing happening and that she's so smart and capable and isn't the love interest. I just want them to be ten years later and suddenly look at each other and think 'where have you been all my life?' in a totally new way.
I love H/D. I really, really do. But my yearning for this variant flavour is really strong. :-(
