I can't remember if it was in the New Yorker or Harpers that they were positing the scenario where he holds out until the primaries are underway, then, if Obama and Clinton are starting to look all rather muddied by the whole process (and there are few processes muddier than American elections, my heart still bleeds for John Kerry), then Gore could be persuaded to step in as the shiny wholesome canididate.
And since the US has already voted him in once, we know it can happen! (On a related note, is it wrong for me to hope the GOP goes with Fred Thomson for no better reason than I find him hilarious?)
