I came back from Italy feeling a little unwell and proceeded to languish about (in the manner of a Puccini (or SMeyer) heroine). Which has led to my hd_hols fic being late (in the manner of a contemporary Italian train). Happily, the mods are kind (in the manner of Enid Blyton mothers).  Unhappily, I have lost my mind (in the manner of someone striding through San Francisco declaring they are Napoleon).

Last night's writing saw me spend half an hour trying to remember the name of a brand of watch (then changed my mind about including it), twenty minutes unable to recall how to spell the word perambulate (since edited out), and then I had to dig out a map to work out the broom flying times from London to Brighton (whole scene since deleted).

I grew up in East Sussex and London, am an editor, and once worked on a specialist horology magazine. If you don't hear from me for the next week or so, it's because I am poring through books trying to recall the name of that red-haired wizard who's good friends with the dark-haired one, whatsisface.

The mods are very, very kind. And dead sexy.

You don't what a relief it is to read your post, and yes, the hd_holiday mods are kindness personified. I take comfort from the fact that you have not yet forgotten the white-blond wizard's name, something Dee or whatever.

If you've tackled the broom-flighing time, I'd be interested in the results. And perhaps then we can discuss the question of where exactly may be the Malfoy's continental estates.

I always think they'd have lovely homes in Firenze, Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat and Riga, and a sweet chalet in Chamonix, which they tell people is for skiing and which is actually where Lucius is sent when Narcissa thinks he's been a bloody idiot.

And about half an hour, given it's a bit under an hour on the train and the Ford Anglia, which kept pace with the Hogwarts Express, seemed to be a bit ambling in the flight stakes.

PS XXX!

Exactly! I have deadlines enough in the real world! 2009 will be a year of finished WiPs for me ;-)

I am also hanging out for the end of Fathers. When you're ready. And recovered. No pressure. :oD

*sits next to you and laments on the lateness of her own hd_hols fic*

On the plus side, I think I finished it yesterday. Am letting it sit - have a final read-through and then tossing to the mods, at which time my wibbling begins in earnest.

*hugs and hope you're better soon*

I'm so happy to see you post again. Hope you feel better, and your story comes together. *vibes again*

Oh btw, because I am dumb, I saw "horology magazine" and thought, "Is that a zine about whores, or for them? Better google it." *breathes thru mouth*

Can you and I share a room at the Funny Farm? I hear it saves on cost and we can help each other keep track of our meds ;)

But seriously. Feel better, and what did you tell me once? The brain is a mercurial but resilient little fellow.

If you read a hols fic where the first half has a reasonably coherent plot and the second half just consists of Harry striding about the place laying claim to European territories, and Draco trying to stop him before finally dressing up in a natty pair of tight trousers and boots and wrangling in some Belgian troops, keep it hush hush!

We would be sent to the back of the asylum for bad behaviour and for offering objective criticism of the counsellors ('I like his voice, but his theory is so Jungian. Still, from a retro perspective, it's fascinating!')

A little more writing, then bed. I shall try to keep all characters from leaping upon large white horses and taking over Spain.

Colonel Malfoy (whose father eventually purchased his commission after a true masterpiece of a tantrum) is finding the Peninsula campaign rather less exciting and more dirty than anticipated when he comes across the thoroughly disreputable Harry J. Potter shacked up in a small Spanish village. Captain Potter, attached to the Home Office in a suspiciously vague manner, is on the run after his cover is blown... somewhere?

Look the bus was late, and I could think about this or how cold it is.

Colonel Malfoy has a white horse, btw.

What is with the creativity drain this year? Everyone is struggling. I had to wrestle my hols fic into submission (I only partially succeeded *sigh*) and now my llnm fic (for alaana_fair who is also very, very kind and dead sexy) is kicking my ass. It just will not be written! I wrote 8 fest fics this year. Next year I'm doing 1 or 2 tops. It's too much. I love festing - it's so fun!! - but I think I need more breathing room to do anything decent. Besides 2009 is reserved for finishing CDT, dammit!

Also, YOU! You and your musical fic! I've had send in the clowns stuck in my head since you posted and you know, I don't like that song very much!

It's nice to see you posting, though - I've missed you, bb!!

I think Worldcup sucked out my will to live, or at least write. While I enjoyed Darkfest and the first AS/S fest, I should probably have said no to fests back in March. But yeah, next year is for me, baby. And you ...

Hee! A little Sondheim never hurt. I have had very bad longer versions of the songs playing and occasionally being sung to the cats. Be grateful you live in Canada! And fingers crossed normal service will resume shortly.

My theory is that brooms fly faster than trains, but slower than fast planes. I need more data to come up with a useful comparison to helicopters ...

She was saying: 'For someone who's as much of a lightweight as Brammers, she's not too shabby with cocktails!'

I am considering the very real possibilty that a trip to Melbourne would be an ideal Christmas present to myself, it only remains to see how many people remember to pay me before then ;-)

My glee will be womanfully restrained. And I will selflessly say that I hope they pay you, because money is a nice thing. :D

Are you feeling all better now? I've been worried, but I'm also awful at keeping track these days - I am trying to read and type in a room with a husband, a brother in law, a sister in law, two guitars, a drum kit and a lot of music.

I have original fic to read - I may survive.

Lungs are good, joints are all a bit inflamed and tender, which they do occasionally, and next week is my last before some HOLIDAYS, so after sleeping through them, I will be as good as new!

Your house sounds very full! If you're in the mood for any YA fiction, I can suggest Flora Segunda and Flora's Dare.
