The hd_erised poll is open! And I am failing at link insertion because my iPad hates me. It's here: http://hd-erised.livejournal.com/62396.html

I feel very confident of my one guess, though I've only read the first part of the story (too much to do!). I know one other, but no fair because I actually know it, and I read one other fic that has a familiar taste to it, but I couldn't place it (the first one posted, I think, where they are fake dating. Highly amusing!)

If you think you know which fic I wrote (and aren't one of the handful of people who know the answer), leave a guess here. First correct answer wins a prize! And I have no idea what that will be. Maybe an 'extra', or a postcard, or violet crumble. Right now I have no idea what I am having for breakfast and it's 11.37am. I have definitely used up my planning brain!

Looking forward to reveals because I REALLY want to talk about some of the process of writing that bugger. I have useful writing knowledge to impart.

And on an unrelated note, I had to bin my toughest gardening gloves yesterday. A thing you do in Australia that you don't do in saner countries is shake out shoes and feel glove fingers before putting them on. TWO fingers with random inclusions yesterday! Cockroach in one and spider in another. The cockroach was dead and not budging, and the spider was alive and gnashy. Since the gloves were not expensive and were aged, I wasn't going to argue over who won that one!

My second toughest gardening gloves and I had a rewarding afternoon pruning flowers and potting on tomatoes. Now for the herb repotting this afternoon before my promised week of rain!

I look forward to hearing your writing advice!

I've put my hand into a gardening glove and found a dead cockroach, too. I guess that's better than a live one? And spiders, ick! Glad you had a second pair of gloves, and how lovely to spend a productive afternoon in the garden! We had some rain overnight and I guess at some point I'm going to have to do some weeding and lawn-mowing...

At least a live one would crawl out again, I hope! I have several pais of gardening gloves, partially due to work occasionally having a freebie, mosty because I justify it to myself at the nursery with the 'But I spend so much time looking for a pair, a spare would be grand!'

I was nearly washed out, but the storm hit and then moved on! Hurrah! And I mowed the lawn yesterday, so now it looks like lawn again, instead of the collection of weeds I know to be hiding in there.

Eek!

I was used to up-ending my chore boots to make sure nothing was inside (I once had a toad roll out of one!), but not gloves. Yuck!

Sydney brings the festival of bug and arachnid. Alas, a couple of them are deadly, so we are keen shoe-shaking, glove prodding people ;-)

I suppose it's unfair if I vote - but bugger all, a violet crumble has me intrigued. ♥

No voting for you, mod lady! Though since no-one seems to be hazarding a guess, you could yet win by default ;-) Have you ever had Violet Crumble? It's less good than it ws when I moved here, but still rather fine!

Frankly I've never even heard of violet crumble. You know us Americans...we stick to the boring things like apple crisp *an apple dessert with a cinnamon/sugary topping* and peach cobblers.

And I'm a bit sad at the lack of guesses in general. But hoping it will pick up. I should offer something on my journal if anyone guesses mine. No one EVER guesses mine. :P

ETA: and now I am embarrassed. In the US crumbles/cobblers/crisps are baked things.

When we moved to Aus people warned us about the shoe thing but no one said anything about checking your pegs on the washing line for spiders. Didn't take long to learn.

Pegs, chairs, everybloodywhere ... I have at least trained the BFS* orb weavers in the garden to go across spaces that will not involve me receiving face hugs. Because no-one wants that.

Well, as I was reading one fic thought 'omg brammers wrote this, I'm sure of it!' but wasn't sure you were even writing for the fest. Now do you think I can remember which one it was? Nooooooo! I have read too many of them, now I should go back and find it. Good thing I am on holidays and have time.

As for the bug/arachnid varieties... I once thonged a spider running across my lounge room and it promptly exploded into a million babies. The sound out my mouth was not human! Morbid fear of spiders.

Oh bloody hell! Was it a wolf spider? We camped at a place infested by them and were all coping with them (they can make you sick, but are actually calm lest roused, so we did no rousing) until one ran up my friend's leg and, as she said, 'I looked down and there were MILLIONS OF EYES!!!!'

No, thank god, it was just a common brown house spider....I think. It looked like it anyway, but then minus a million babies, it was a lot smaller and could have been anything! Not a redback though, those generally live outside.

Those wolf spiders are huge! I can only imagine my terror seeing millions of eyes as well as those massive things! Did it bite? I remember camping somewhere in Northern Vic where there was an infestation of massive huntsman spiders. It was okay until we found one on the front of the car hanging by inches (Inches!!!) over top and bottom edges of the front bumper bar. That freaked me out a lot!

Over the years it's been cockroaches three to one, but, alas, when I say that ratio, it's more like 27:9 :-(

Also, EW!

Bother. I was hoping the comments would point me in the direction of your fic. I've been exhausted lately - too tired to trawl through 40 flics looking for yours (in the past I've been able to find yours easily by the summaries you write, as they are so distinctive, but I haven't spotted it the few times I've had a look). It's the only one I want to read and reveals aren't up yet. I'll have to pout for another 24 hours.

Between you and me, you should be able to guess from the header if you look at the pairings. (Also, obviously, not in the first half (by which I mean two thirds) of the fest.)

But you didn't hear that from me :-)

The pairings! Yes, if I'd only read them, I may have twigged. When I did look through, I almost read your fic because of the title - very appealing. I'm off on holiday for ten days now and am torn between glee at having a 70k fic of yours to read and horror that I'll have to do so on my phone. :-( if only my eyes were twenty years younger.
