Twas the night day before Christmas, and all through the house,

The kitties were resting and dreaming of mouse.

The Gingerbread Hut* was being made with care,

When sudd'nly three noses twitched, at the pong in the air!

The tall one ran out with her hair all amok,

But stopped at the doorway, frozen with shock!

For where a garden should be was a small slurried stream

Of sewage and paper, she let out a scream.

'Not this as well! Oh curse my bad karma!

It's Christmas Eve! I'll never get a plumber!'

It was woe upon woe for this poor tired girl,

She flopped on the sofa and listed them all.

No invoices paid**, so her Christmas largess***

Couldn't even be posted, her accounts were a mess.

The sweet little cat had been sick as a dog,

And now the back garden looked and smelled like a bog.

'Still, it could be worse!' she said with a sigh.

'I have love and good friends, so enough pity pie.'

She got up from the sofa and went for the post

And there on her door was what she needed most!

For dear friends had sent her good will and kind wishes!

And a box from Sofia as yellow as fishes. ****

Inside it, sweet trinkets, fond words and a reminder

From[livejournal.com profile] spark_of_chaos  that Christmas was where you find her.

As she opened the box, she remembered that truth,

If you seek Christmas Spirit, then your friends are the proof!

She laughed at the monster that let out a sweet ring

(and the fact Bulgarian monsters look like Vikings).

And then there were cards, from so many fave peeps!

Sweet and kind[livejournal.com profile] micolerose , and that smart[livejournal.com profile] shu_shu_sleeps

Dearest[livejournal.com profile] frayach  and Oh! The beloved[livejournal.com profile] feralcheryl ,

Of displaying emotions, our girl was in peril.

And then there were notes from those she kept missing!

This year,[livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl , you will meet in person!

And[livejournal.com profile] meredyth_13 , because she's coming to Melbourne!

(Though not for a few weeks 'cos accountants are hell-born.)

She was so deeply moved, she rang her beloved,

Who said, 'Oh yeah, there's one more, it's on top of the cupboard.'

With minimal eye-rolling, she went quickly hence,

And found heart-warming missives from sweet[livejournal.com profile] frankkincense !

She was so deeply moved that she shed a small tear,

And a few more when lj ate her post, but then it reappeared!

Along with [livejournal.com profile] calanthe_fics's parcel of random,

She looked down on a Christmas that had been built by fandom.

As the kitties stood by, she raised a glass of cheer,

(Thinking one wouldn't hurt before the plumber gets here)

And declared 'Happy Christmas, to ALL you dear souls,

May your stockings be filled high with hope, never coals.'

*Other homes have gingerbread houses. That is because other people are more talented than I am and live in less humid cities. The last one I put together collapsed merrily over the course of Christmas dinner with our friends. It was so spectacular that we Christened it Mawson's Hut. They have requested I repeat the performance this year. Sadists!

It looked like this:

** Theoretically, I have $10,000 to see me through the holidays! Actually I have $550. BASTARDS!

*** [livejournal.com profile] feralcheryl  and[livejournal.com profile] delvino , I have gifts for your bambini (and for you, actually), but they will be posted after Christmas, same for
[livejournal.com profile] annes_stuff . Quite a few flist people will be receiving random gifts of oddness at strange times over the next month. A great many Christmas cards will have the same fate. Happily, this year's say Season's Greetings. That season is Twelfth Night, and Chinese New Year. Hurrah!

**** Shush, I am tired. And a wee bit emotional. And therefore less talented than usual. Or, the same. Hush, you!

Christmas is looking kind of nice this year - and now bonus poetry - WIN!
I hope the lovely plumber next door can deal quickly with the nasty plumbing situation - a perfect excuse for a Yuletide drinkie or two.
Hope you and J have a lovely day - the gingerbread house will be epic.
Although I luncheon with first the divine Countess M and her lovely hubbie tomorrow then kick the 'Christmas stomach' into action to fit in dinner with the amazingly talented Mistress LdG and her amusing hubbie GB, I'm only just getting started - I will be celebrating all the way through to Twelfth Night.

Merry Xmas and cuddles to the kitties.

I am here for ALL your dodgy rhyming needs ;-)

Jim the plumber came and fixed and has well deserved his status as a LEGEND in this house. Oh the sound of water running down pipes instead of back up them ... I could weep for joy!

Your Christmas sounds spectacular! We are off to dinner (with the hut) at Laj and Paj's tonight, and will return stuffed to death. But light food for tomorrow as it's just us, thank goodness!

We have plans to see you before your birthday, fingers crossed they will come to fruition! Merry Christmas to you and the cats, and a very happy New Year!
