498. Four hours sleep a night is nothing like enough.

499. My hair is recalcitrant.

500. I really fucking hated Pinochet.

This message has been brought to you by the third straight week of nights that are too hot for sleeping.

it is -21 celcius here. -36 with windchill.

I am finding it hard to relate. except for the hair part, I totally get that.

STAY INSIDE!

I do sometimes tell myself it could be worse and I could be in Scotland at this time of year, but I do find cold so much easier to cope with than the sapping heat. *Sends you warm vibes*

And I am even thinking of cutting my hair, which is quite the thing ;-)

You don't know how weird it is to read about nights being too hot to sleep when we are freezing our little buns off.

mpreg? *meep*

You can always put more clothes and bedclothes on; I am looking at napping in the bath with the cold tap running :-(

(Am writing but v slowly due to exhaustion and crazy work. Quite soon for the birth scene, which is mostly done!)

You need to come stay here. We have air con.

My needy cats would drive yours to distraction. But a visit sounds good! Will let you know once this deadline ends XX

Excellent. After all, handsewing can be done anywhere, and aircon is our friend.

I'd make that trade! I can sit around all day in blankies and beanies, but I cannot take off any more layers to cool down :-(

Normally I agree with you. You can always find ways to warm up, it's so very difficult to cool down.

But I have a fever, so I'm frigging freezing. I'd like to warm up without feeling like I'm going to pass out. Meh.

Ugh, so with you on the too hot to sleep font.

Also, I've finally figured out why most houses in Aus are one storey. Because it's too bloody hot upstairs. Of course, I didn't realise until I actually lived in a two-storey house and am now suffering the consequences. I know, I'm a little slow. It seems like it would be obvious. *sigh* ;)

I am going to buy one of those underground houses and dress like a hobbit. Off to shower and attempt sleep again.

From: [identity profile] raitala.livejournal.com
You should definitely buy an underground eco-house with round windows and doors if you plan on staying in Aus any longer. How tall is J? I find men get very tetchy if they keep bumping their heads though. Our summer house in Finland was clearly built by tiny hobbit people, as the original doorways are about 5, 8", so we all have to duck through from one room to another. My brother is for some reason incapable of remembering to do this and consistently comes out of his duck too early and thwacks his head. Holidays there are punctuated with the phenomenon of finding a 24 year old man curled in a fetal position on the floor in a doorway, swearing blue murder, having hit the same sore spot on his head for the nth time.

Appealing as a hobbit house is though, I think you should both move over to Europe, where the climate is more sensible and you'll be closer to MEEEEE! (also to many other cool people).

He is 5'11", so it would need to be the sort of house that is carved into the side of a hill. Happily, there are a few of them about. I, as you know, would be comfy in a Wendy house with sufficient mod cons.

Estonia is looking more inviting by the year, especially as one of my very dear London friends is marrying a Latvian this year. That and the ability to visit you easily in two locations means that I have become more serious about my real world writing in a bid to secure funding without regular work.

Have you considered a padded beanie for your brother? Or a stylish cycle helmet?

Off to shower again, and then to sleep. More or less ...

Ugh! I hate that! We had several summers of insane sweat-soaked nights before we broke down and bought a little ac for our bedroom (I was NOT going through pregnancy with the nights in their 30's thanks!). It just sucks so hard.

I actually love Canada and it would be hard for me to live elsewhere but our weather extremes suck. Plus 30 in the summer and today is negative 20-something. I wish it could always be autumn...

From: [identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com
That is INSANE! Suddenly high 20s at night does not seem so bad at all! Though I agree with you about autumn, Keats was right.

You also look nothing like her - thankfully! :)

We didn't get any sleep in the summer until we got a window unit air conditioner for the bedroom. Fans are just not enough!

Though she does have admirable thighs ... J is keen on one, but the noise and carbon emissions make me balk. Perhaps I should just turn to earplugs and buy carbon credits ...

Maybe you could look into a "green" a/c, if there is such a thing?

Hmm, I've never seen Maggie's thighs. I must tell you though that I once saw a photo of GW Bush (today's his last day!) in shorts, and I couldn't believe how great his legs were!

If it weren't for Pinochet, I probably would've grown up in Chile, and therefore wouldn't have the partner & kids I have now. Hate him anyway.

I remember when I was little, and all of a sudden there were all these Chileans about, and I thought it was because they, like the Argentines, had taken to polo in droves. A few years later, I had the horrified realisation of what was actually happening.

Mm, yeah. Most of my immediate family left too; my dad left right away for Spain, his sister went to Switzerland, my mom and I joined my dad and eventualy ended up in Canada, one of her sisters went to Germany and the other went to the US. I thought all families were scattered around the world when I was little.

It's always weird to me when I hear the word "diaspora," knowing I'm part of one.

I am so happy we recently installed the little inverter ac unit in the bedroom. Has made sleep possible. And doesn't use anywhere near as much power as you'd think if you're eco conscious.

You're seriously thinking of cutting your hair? All off, or just a trim? I can't picture you with short hair, that's too freaky.

J went and bought one this afternoon. We will need to take the bars from the windows to fit it in. Sigh.

Maybe about half off; it's hot and I would like it to just have a little style ...

*pets* *blows cool air*

I really need to get my hair cut because I hate it when it gets in front of my eyes. Thing is, it's too cold (and dark) to walk all the way to the hairdresser. *is a weak public travel-temperature person*
