Anyone know the ffnet maintainers?

Because I think it is admirable that they are attempting to encourage standards, despite all evidence to the contrary, however:

"Please note that it can take up to 4-8 hours for your story to be publically listed and be available through the search engine."

does not inspire the confidence it could.

And, for something mostly different. [profile] calanthe_fics  is one of my favourite writers, though I suspect that she enjoys torturing me. MONTHS after posting the last thing she wrote, she is back in the land of fic production. Her new story is here, and it's called Gush. As to the torture, well, it's as well written as all her stuff, set during the Harry stalking Draco part of HBP (my fave fanon period!) and involves manipulations and mind games.

And the sort of kink that has me squealing and hiding behind my hands. Because I am easily sent into the Doctor Who Watching Position.

What sort of kink, you ask? Well, she rejected my suggestion that she call it Floods of Passion, if that's any help. It's brilliant stuff, showing just exactly how far Draco Malfoy was prepared to go to keep his secrets that year (quite some way indeed!)

Floods of Passion

bwahahahahaha!!!

I believe she was interested in dignity, which, as you know, concerns me only about 40% of the time ;-)

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
dignity is highly over rated. *pees self*

Nine, baby. Nine FOREVER. ♥

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have room in my heart for both him and Ten. Admittedly, I just want to look at Ten while I talk to Nine. OK, there may be some Ten shagging, but Nine could keep talking.

No, that would be weird, wouldn't it?

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, I'd totally shag Ten. But I love Nine like I could never love Ten. I want Nine to be my dad, my best friend, my favourite uncle or something. I want to give him a hug and let him take care of me.

Ten is a little too distant and he can be cruel. I'm afraid to get too close. But Ten.5 I would run away with him.

o.O what the hell did I put in my coffee this morning, I'm all introspective.

I blame Russell T Davies and his genius at casting Very Hot Men With Brains.

Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaains!!!! Give me Braaaaaaaaaaains!!!

That's my own fault for introducing the Zombie motif, isn't it?

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
yes.

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
i was thinking it should've been titled "Puddles of Obsession".

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
you know i'm right. ;)

hiya! how are you?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Knackered, but otherwise well. YAY for you being well, and back around!

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
it totally works. ;)

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It was originally 'Trickle', and then 'Dirty Water Tourture', but neither of them felt right. I like 'gush' best.

:)

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm just glad 'Moist' wasn't an option. ;P

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely 'no'. Not enough velocity of liquid.

[identity profile] glass-violet.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm truly sorry, I know this comment actually belongs in an older post, but it's late and I have lurched out of my warm bed to babble to you about 'Vampire Fair', because of course Becky *Sharp* is a vampire!
Right, back to bed.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! You are SO RIGHT! (We should write that one, too!)

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Mwah!

Thank you! I get home to find my inbox so full of membership requests that it's gone over the page!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that would be the far more useful Marguerite, who was sensible enough to link to your actual fic com! (I am not very bright sometimes, but I can lift very heavy things!)

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that because of your low centre of gravity?

[identity profile] mific.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
V. keen to read Gush but can't access it. Do I need to ask for membership in some comm? Couldn't see instructions on the site (probably as am a thicko). I'm asking, anyway. I did friend you as calanthe_fics but that by itself hasn't done the trick. Help?

[identity profile] calanthe-fics.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's now unlocked on my lj.

:)

[identity profile] aldehyde.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
it's CAL so i want to read it but i don't know if i can! i remember there was one fic from a fest [i can't remember who wrote it] where watersports was mentioned but in a very tongue-in-cheek hurrr hurrr way, which made it bearable, but..

i dunno.
eep.

i think 2009 is my year for trying new things when it comes to fandom. i've already read a number of pairings and kinks i never thought i would..so perhaps i can give watersports a try too.

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So, 'piss off' didn't make it into the list of possible names for the fic? ;)

Unless there's something new I'm not aware of, I don't think they mean any sort of moderation (the volume is far too high), just that it can take a while for your new submission to be indexed in the database and able to come up in searches.

(As for "standards", pet peeve, I know they are trying to stop people from using all kinds of wacky control characters and from just posting garbage or ASCII pr0n or trying to hack by posting code or anything stupid like that, but I really wish they'd adopt sensible and consistent policies for what text characters are and are not allowed.)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
It was more there's no such word as publically, it's publicly
arcanetrivia: a light purple swirl on a darker purple background (Default)

[personal profile] arcanetrivia 2009-04-08 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I've made that error myself because I want it to parallel other -ally words (the problem being that those are built off words that end in -al to begin with, which "public" does not). I guess I misread this because I didn't see the bit you quoted as having anything to do with encouraging standards.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
And you were quite logical on both counts! But yes, it just made me giggle to read the pleas that people beta stories first, then see that as an autoreply. I looked for an email address to send a gentle suggestion, but was thwarted!

[identity profile] silentcs.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Please note that it can take up to 4-8 hours for your story to be publically listed and be available through the search engine."
I am so tired that this survived my first skim through it. Then the copy editor in my brain whispered that something is not right! (Like poor Miss Clavel.) I think support@fanfiction.net would be the best bet, but they probably get so many emails...

Also, re: Becky Sharp == vampire: This is so perfect. A bloodsucking social climber! She's only doing it because she needs to!

[identity profile] uminohikari.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
....publically? Really?
