blamebrampton: 15th century woodcut of a hound (Default)
I know. Two fics in the one month. Madness! I might even finish some more WiPs this year if this keeps up!

This is the sequel to Tidings of Comfort, which was begun on [livejournal.com profile] raitala's sofa on a cold winter's evening in 2009 and was going to be a Christmas fic, except I finished it in March. This sequel was going to be a birthday fic for Rai, except, well, you get the picture.

Title: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Word count: 8400
Rating: So safe, the horses would be checking its pockets for sugar.
Summary: Draco hasn't been seeking refuge in religion, just in London's most famous church. The fact that it's on the daily route of Britain's most famous Auror is total coincidence, he's really there for the music.
Notes: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove who is the kindest of betas, and to [livejournal.com profile] raitala and Catsson, whose hospitality and purring (respectively) were essential to the genesis of this story.

blamebrampton: 15th century woodcut of a hound (Default)
Five years on LJ today. Five years in which I have
* Still not finished the first fic I began to post.
* Taken four years to complete the second (well, its sequel at any rate).
* Never once really managed being a good respondent to comments.
* Managed to avoid writing any sex scenes except for one het that only [livejournal.com profile] chantefable read, so that pretty much counts as none, yet still had kind readers.
* Had the loveliest, most forgiving readers and flist in the world! There's almost no one I prefer a natter or a debate or a polite argument with! (And AC Grayling never returns my calls)

I was going to post the sequel to Tidings of Comfort to mark the occasion, but it's not finished (tradition! Actually, it would have been, but it was the subject of my recent computer disaster and I have some tendonitis in my right arm from freelancing in poorly set-up offices, so expect it soonish.) Instead, have my recent Smoochfest fic, and a very happy Saturday to you all, especially the sternly sexy [livejournal.com profile] austrianschool, the lovely and lurky [livejournal.com profile] smth_evil, and the delightful [livejournal.com profile] drachengreif, all of whom enjoyed their birthdays yesterday, and today's birthday flistees, the absolutely fabulous [livejournal.com profile] asitha, the much-missed [livejournal.com profile] rosiew and the utterly adorable [livejournal.com profile] sirius_luva, who I hope is having a good time at home and will be back with her Perth pals soon! Best wishes of the day and hopes for good Scotch/margueritas/mead/hot chocolate/delicious icy beverage as appropriate, along with many gifts!

And now the fic … You may recall me declaring I wasn't writing for any fests, but the prompter asked for something with Estonians, so I assumed it was a personal request. And when I said as much to [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet, she replied 'Oh yes, I definitely think you should totally write that one.' About a week of vigorous encouragement later, I twigged enough to say 'That was you, wasn't it?' but the damage had already been done. Sigh.

Author LJ Name: blamebrampton
Prompt Number: 12, gift for [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet
Title: The Consolations of a Summer’s Day
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco and canon pairings, plus the odd fanonical previously for Harry and Draco.
Summary: Harry Potter is absolutely certain Draco Malfoy did not murder Pansy Parkinson. He’s almost absolutely certain he can prove this without sacrificing his career and having them both hauled up before the Wizengamot.
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): Dead Pansy Parkinson at the start of the story. And at the end, too, plus in the middle. No Zombie Pansy, that would be wrong.
Epilogue compliant? Only for Ron and Hermione.
Word Count: about 33,000
Author's Notes: Anyone JKR left alive at the end of Deathly Hallows is alive in this fic, regardless of what the films say! Thanks to the prompter for such a fun prompt: working your additions of tattoo and trench coat in was easy, the tiepin, on the other hand, alas … look, feel free to assume Ron is wearing one! Thank you very much to the mods who run an excellent fest and show enormous compassion towards the chronically slow! And especial thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove and [livejournal.com profile] raitala, the finest betas, Balt-picker and sanity checkers a writer could have! Any remaining mistakes are due to my inability to correctly make their edits.

Title
Fathers, Who Could Do With a Spot of Sinning,
Part 3e of 3e (The age of miracles is not past!) (Though this is in two parts because LJ hates me)
Author [livejournal.com profile] blamebrampton
Characters Harry/Draco, Ron and Hermione, Narcissa, the next-gen crew and sundries.
Rating PG
Words  64890 total, 10,983 this part
Summary After their sons fall in large amounts of teenaged love at school, Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter decide it's finally time to talk like adults about their own ties to each other. If only they could. Meanwhile, events of national importance conspire to distract them.
Notes Absolutely nothing to do with Jo Rowling, Bloomsbury, Scholastic or any other media titans. But affectionately nicked from all of the above.
My undying gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove  who manages to do a wonderful job of beta-ing while I do an appalling job of meeting any deadlines, and then go and introduce errors afterwards. All the ghastly things should be blamed on me entirely, as my mentis has not been compos for years.
Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me along the way, but in particular to [livejournal.com profile] libby_drew  who kicked this all off, [livejournal.com profile] norton_gale , who is also responsible, and [livejournal.com profile] raitala  and everyone else who nagged cheerfully. Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet  for additional beta-ing and general arse-booting, to [livejournal.com profile] leaf_light  for making me laugh at the same time as making me feel v guilty for my tardiness, and to [livejournal.com profile] goddessriss  for being consistently lovely – Happy late birthday! As always, all errors are mine and concrit and typo mentions are quite welcome.

One of my RL friends recently friended me on this journal (Hey M!) To her, and other people who think of me as just a political and knitting junkie slightly obsessed with her hair and footwear, I say, move along! Nothing to see!

To those who are here for the fic, I say, nearly! So close! I was going to wait until I had actually finished the whole thing up before posting, but it is possible that [livejournal.com profile] leaf_light  would crawl through the computer and strangle me if I did that. So penultimate chapter it is! Which is handy, because I was looking for a way to celebrate the anniversary of [livejournal.com profile] suttonwriter 's  and [livejournal.com profile] complications_g 's births. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, you two!

Part 3e
blamebrampton: 15th century woodcut of a hound (Default)
I've been debating with myself about this fic all week. The fact of the matter is that it's a problem child. Well into the [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays  fest I was beta-ing a terrific fic by someone who was running a wee bit late and received a check-in email from one of the mods, who tiredly told a tale of woe about fic problems.

I may have been slightly out of my mind with exhaustion, or possibly drunk on a nip of limoncello, but I found myself saying: 'If you need something light and comedic with a possible touch of politics written to order, feel free to call on me. It won't be genius, but it will be competent!'

They called, I wrote! Of course, there was a 10-day turn-around period and it was Christmas and so my beloved beta [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove  was only available for a few days, and my darling [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet  who had insisted I call on her if needed was trapped in the wilds of Victoria with lunatics. I asked on my flist for a stunt beta and the unutterably fabulous [livejournal.com profile] nursedarry  narrowly beat the stylish and delightful [livejournal.com profile] drgaellon  to the offer. Which is probably for the best as I developed a serious surprise psychic link with Darry -- my innocent little mind would have been hopelessly distracted for months if it had been the other way around, Randy!

The navel-gazing (feel free to skip) )

Title: Of Hoof Picks, Centaurs, and Flight
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, previous brief Harry/Justin Finch-Fletchley, attempted Draco/Oliver Wood, actual Oliver Wood/adoring masses (offscreen), other canon pairings
Summary: Harry has promised that he will not do anything to upset the new head of Magical Creatures. Even if it is Draco Malfoy. When three centaur foals appear in Cumbria, far from the Forbidden Forest and all too close to Muggles, Harry’s promise is thoroughly tested. To say nothing of his equestrian skills.
Rating: Nothing to scare the horses
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): None
Epilogue compliant? No for Harry and Draco, yes for most other characters.
Word Count: A bit over 21,000
Author's Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] rosivan  at the 2010 [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays . This fic would have been utterly doomed without the encouragement and generous beta skills of [livejournal.com profile] nursedarry , and her powers of psychic link, and the eagle eye of [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove . Many thanks, too, to [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet , who assured me that Twilight jokes were wholly appropriate, because wizarding kids have enough youthful problems with formal robes and should be allowed the odd smuggled Muggle novel.

Jetlag of DOOM has struck. I also appear to have developed peroneal tendonitis, which is clearly the universe laughing at me buying a new running top yesterday. Damn you, universe! Should be fine with rest and physio, and I will break out the rowing machine rather than the running top! (And for anyone inclined to worry, don't, I have high arches and a mangled right foot that makes it susceptible to this sort of thing, and it is my own fault for being far too slack at general fitness and stretching and then treating my body as though it was still capable of doing anything I want it to.)

I was going to have finished at least the first of my remaining travel posts today, but I dozed and limped instead. So for people who aren't following [livejournal.com profile] serpentinelion , have some fic I wrote for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] ladydeth12  last week -- er, mods, that is to say, AGES ago, when I was meant to. Oh who am I kidding ... thank you all for not sending in the brute squad, I do appreciate it. You are saintly people, saintly, I tell you!

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] jadzialove  has given it a quick once-over, but her computer committed holiday-induced suicide, and my idiocy is such that very dumb typos may remain, for which I apologise in advance. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] raitala  for spotting the utter nonsense in the opening section in time for it to be excised ruthlessly. I blame the spiced cider ...
