Grrrrrrr

The only thing worse than having both the Ashes and the Tour on in the middle of the night (and thus developing RSI in my channel-switching fingers) is having Australia do well in the cricket.

I love 99.7% of things Australian, but it is not within me to love the cricket team.

Actually, that's not wholly true, the women's team is lovely.

What's wrong with the men's cricket team?

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I see! In that case, boo, hiss, how annoying they're doing well - it's almost as bad as having people with bad taste in women compliment you on your looks! :D

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
go to bed! :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I went!

[identity profile] libby-drew.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely like lovely? I could use some eye candy right now.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Tour de France, darling! The calves!

[identity profile] treacle-tartlet.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*pats you* I had to watch a Daniel O'Donnel DVD at work yesterday. I would have preferred cricket, and I really don't like cricket.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you poor thing! SBS2 has the cycling if it comes to that!

[identity profile] ozdobe.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what's wrong with the men's cricket team? I don't even get to see cricket over here at all - I get bored by the football they think they play (don't you have to use your feet to play football; shouldn't American 'gridiron' be called handball?)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
They're still boofheads for the most part. Admittedly it has improved since the Warney days of a few years back, but not enough for me to cope. Everything is mixed up with sportspeople here: the soccer team is made up of the nicest lads you could hope for, the cricket team mostly moose.

And yes, gridiron is a fake sport, just a cross between catch & kick and wrestling.

[identity profile] jadzialove.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I feel compelled to clarify.

Football is called such, in the US, because when they named the sport, they actually kicked the ball. You know, with a foot. No one thought of picking it up and throwing it for several years. Then they realized it was more fun, but the name stuck.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's more fun because they all secretly want to be wrestlers!

[identity profile] brissygirl.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't watch the cricket in the first place. But why you would stay up til all hours watching it is beyond me!

And I second empress_jae, you need to go to bed!!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was also waiting for the F1 qualifying ... But I did go to bed!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*gasp* traitor!

;p

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh come on, you're telling me you prefer that pack of thickies to the diverse, amusing and genteel English team? What is it with you Australians and your obsession with winning?

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Amusing and genteel? I hardly think Ian Botham was genteel and what's his face the batter who was so particular and picky that no one could ever get him out but he never made any runs... he was very genteel, but hardly amusing. ;p

My folks had Mark (Mike)(whatever his name is) Atherton staying at their place when he was here in the English junior side. Not too many years before he became captain.

Besides, us Aussies have to overcome our convict background you know, and wipe the floor with the Poms at every opportunity just to stick it up 'em.

;p

PS: It'd be nice if I could spell - must be the lack of education because I was so busy not being a convict and whipping Pommy arse at netball. ;p

(I love you, really)

Netball schmetball, we send our toughest girls to hockey!

I will grant you that Botham was a boofhead, too. And even Flintoff can have a touch of the thickies, but very mild compared to some ;-)

It's not all about winning, it's about having the best crowd chants!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha well our hockey girls are world champs or something, right? ;)

And in the spirit of competition, I will admit your 'amusing and genteel' soccer hooligans fans have the drop on everyone with the chanting. Nothing else to do at a soccer match. ;p Except chant and fight.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's where we send our boofheads. Whereas the Australian football team could not me more lovely if they tried from what I have met of them. The world is turned upside down!

(And I thought the Dutch were world champions again? Our lot keep receiving too many fouls to make it to the finals, that's how tough they are ;-)

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Must admit to not following soccer or hockey. Unless it's like World Cup or something and then I'll watch it avidly and pretend I know all the rules. lol. Same with rugby, which I hate.

You could be right about the Dutch - I think us and them tend to take turns with winning that. Not sure, now.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I am the same with the Olympics. Sports I played for three weeks at school suddenly become old friends in which I have a thorough grounding ;-)

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Haha of course I am the world's authority on Equestrian and I've only ever ridden a horse once. And it bit me.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHA! It is what horses do! Equestrian is one field where I actually do have a good grounding, but even I once had to leave the ring in shame as my horse decided she did not want to jump that day. Or canter. Or trot. Or do anything other than walk in belligerent circles. At least she didn't bite me ... Mad bastards the lot of them!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahahahaha, there are horses all round me up here. We used to feed one across the road until it started charging my then two year old. Poor thing was probably starved and was after the carrot in his hand, but still, it was like a hundred times bigger than my little one.

Mad bastard, indeed.

[identity profile] lyras.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose at least it's not in Australia this time?

The boyfriend and I were at the Adelaide match on Australia Day last time and it was so miserable - even the Aussies around us were cheering on England in the hope of seeing a bit of decent cricket. But no, it was all over before tea time.

*sigh*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was very very sad. *weeps quietly*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Darling, it's a learned hatred! They have Greg Matthews doing commentary! I await Shane Warne's appearance in the box with fear.

I support the Australian football team in their bid for World Cup success, if it makes you feel any better.

[identity profile] annes-stuff.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I get where you are coming from. I actually don't mind a spot of cricket but the off-field antics of some of the players on the mens team has left not wanting to watch it.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes exactly! If they were all as lovely as the old-school teams (and I do meant old-school, those chaps you see interviewed about Bodyline and playing in the '50s) then I would be all for them. But they are win at all costs and tedious with it. Bleagh.
