The only thing worse than having both the Ashes and the Tour on in the middle of the night (and thus developing RSI in my channel-switching fingers) is having Australia do well in the cricket.

I love 99.7% of things Australian, but it is not within me to love the cricket team.

Actually, that's not wholly true, the women's team is lovely.

Amusing and genteel? I hardly think Ian Botham was genteel and what's his face the batter who was so particular and picky that no one could ever get him out but he never made any runs... he was very genteel, but hardly amusing. ;p

My folks had Mark (Mike)(whatever his name is) Atherton staying at their place when he was here in the English junior side. Not too many years before he became captain.

Besides, us Aussies have to overcome our convict background you know, and wipe the floor with the Poms at every opportunity just to stick it up 'em.

;p

PS: It'd be nice if I could spell - must be the lack of education because I was so busy not being a convict and whipping Pommy arse at netball. ;p

(I love you, really)

Netball schmetball, we send our toughest girls to hockey!

I will grant you that Botham was a boofhead, too. And even Flintoff can have a touch of the thickies, but very mild compared to some ;-)

It's not all about winning, it's about having the best crowd chants!

Hahahaha well our hockey girls are world champs or something, right? ;)

And in the spirit of competition, I will admit your 'amusing and genteel' soccer hooligans fans have the drop on everyone with the chanting. Nothing else to do at a soccer match. ;p Except chant and fight.

That's where we send our boofheads. Whereas the Australian football team could not me more lovely if they tried from what I have met of them. The world is turned upside down!

(And I thought the Dutch were world champions again? Our lot keep receiving too many fouls to make it to the finals, that's how tough they are ;-)

Must admit to not following soccer or hockey. Unless it's like World Cup or something and then I'll watch it avidly and pretend I know all the rules. lol. Same with rugby, which I hate.

You could be right about the Dutch - I think us and them tend to take turns with winning that. Not sure, now.

Hee! I am the same with the Olympics. Sports I played for three weeks at school suddenly become old friends in which I have a thorough grounding ;-)

Haha of course I am the world's authority on Equestrian and I've only ever ridden a horse once. And it bit me.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! It is what horses do! Equestrian is one field where I actually do have a good grounding, but even I once had to leave the ring in shame as my horse decided she did not want to jump that day. Or canter. Or trot. Or do anything other than walk in belligerent circles. At least she didn't bite me ... Mad bastards the lot of them!

Hahahahahaha, there are horses all round me up here. We used to feed one across the road until it started charging my then two year old. Poor thing was probably starved and was after the carrot in his hand, but still, it was like a hundred times bigger than my little one.

Mad bastard, indeed.
