The only thing worse than having both the Ashes and the Tour on in the middle of the night (and thus developing RSI in my channel-switching fingers) is having Australia do well in the cricket.
I love 99.7% of things Australian, but it is not within me to love the cricket team.
Actually, that's not wholly true, the women's team is lovely.

Date: 2009-07-12 04:09 am (UTC)My folks had Mark (Mike)(whatever his name is) Atherton staying at their place when he was here in the English junior side. Not too many years before he became captain.
Besides, us Aussies have to overcome our convict background you know, and wipe the floor with the Poms at every opportunity just to stick it up 'em.
;p
PS: It'd be nice if I could spell - must be the lack of education because I was so busy not being a convict and whipping Pommy arse at netball. ;p
(I love you, really)

Date: 2009-07-12 04:20 am (UTC)I will grant you that Botham was a boofhead, too. And even Flintoff can have a touch of the thickies, but very mild compared to some ;-)
It's not all about winning, it's about having the best crowd chants!

Date: 2009-07-12 04:24 am (UTC)And in the spirit of competition, I will admit your 'amusing and genteel' soccer
hooligansfans have the drop on everyone with the chanting. Nothing else to do at a soccer match. ;p Except chant and fight.no subject
Date: 2009-07-12 04:29 am (UTC)(And I thought the Dutch were world champions again? Our lot keep receiving too many fouls to make it to the finals, that's how tough they are ;-)

Date: 2009-07-12 04:32 am (UTC)You could be right about the Dutch - I think us and them tend to take turns with winning that. Not sure, now.

Date: 2009-07-11 11:44 pm (UTC)The boyfriend and I were at the Adelaide match on Australia Day last time and it was so miserable - even the Aussies around us were cheering on England in the hope of seeing a bit of decent cricket. But no, it was all over before tea time.
*sigh*
