To those on my flist who celebrate Yule at the solstice, I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Today is a bit auspicious, astrologically speaking: both the solstice and a lunar eclipse. I took a photo of the eclipse just after moonrise in Sydney, sadly a little after totality (couldn't be seen from here), though, having said that, there'd be little point taking a photo at a total eclipse ...

As to the fabbo Christmas lights we saw the other night, here's a shot:

The tree is made of LED flex with hazard lights and recycled plastic cones over orange hazard mesh:

And the trunk is old milk crates:

It's champion!

I want to know who works for the RTA down there, because it's a concerted amount of borrowing ;-)

According to the news, there will be another one in the not too distant future, so here's hoping it puts on a better show for us!

Well if the RTA *will* just leave their lights and mesh on the side of the road... or it could have been good timing at Reverse Garbage as well, I guess!

Even with missing totality, it was a nice night to be out on the point. There must have been about a hundred people just sitting out on the concrete plinth where the Dawn Treader was, watching the moon rise over the bay. It was king tide, with the water almost up to the top of the sea wall and dead calm so that the reflected moonlight came up to everyone's feet. I wish I'd had a camera, as the temptation to try and take trick 'walking on moonlight' shots was pretty overwhelming!

That sounds lovely! Mr B and I were on the railway bridge, and people kept look at us as though we were nutters. Erko is not a hotbed of amateur astronomy, alas.
