Travelling to Melbourne, Part II

Ah salmon and leek roesti, you are a breakfast of champions, particularly when one adds a poached egg!
After a startlingly late night for such well behaved girls on a schoolnight, I strolled back to the hotel last night, having caught the right tram and *very nearly* disembarked at the right stop, thinking that it may not be possible there is a more attractive and witty person than
pushdragon in Australian fandom, but since I hope to meet
meredyth_13 through the course of the day, I may have to declare a tie.
I am reminded again of what an immensely liveable city Melbourne is, and how people have Standards. I was hoping to buy a new skirt, but am quite short, and the shop I went to originally had nothing to suit, despite a very helpful shopgirl. She patted my arm and said "Not to worry, the other girl will know where to go", and asked her friend, also a shopgirl, where the stumpy might be clad.
Shopgirl two not only wrote me out a list of shops, complete with tram stops, but DREW ME MAPS. NB, none of these were related to her chain, just good places to shop that had clothes for the vertically challenged.
Ah Melbourne, you're like that ...
I have a new skirt, a black woolly cap and a red scarf. Very happy indeed! Now off to an exhibition and to see if any of my friends are available for lunch. At home, J and the cats survived the night, but Monster apparently spent the evening pining. When I asked how this was expressed, I was told that she only wanted tummy rubs and shoulder cuddles, or food, all night. I suggested this may be less pining and more taking shameful advantage. He replied that my cynicism had no place in the the world of kitties.
ETA Lost connection at breakfast, am now at lunch with an EXCELLENT toasted beef sandwich, having spent a long wait to get into the manuscript exhibition and finding it worth every second. THEY HAD MEDIEVAL SELLOTAPE!!!!!
No word from Meredyth, off to meet up with dearest RL friend and her midget. On a tram. Well, they're at the other end of the tram ride, but, you know .

Date: 2008-06-13 04:38 am (UTC)I notice that you don't complain that it is freezing and steel grey and depressing today, in appropriate Melbourne style, for which I can only say that you're very gracious.

Date: 2008-06-13 04:47 am (UTC)I used to be dragged to a Welsh commune in winter and told to bathe in the stream, this is comparatively quite pleasant.
I'll be more organised when I come back for the Deco exhibition and we can see about making more people drink cocktails!

Date: 2008-06-13 06:33 am (UTC)... did you obey?
Cocktails are always a good thing :-)

Date: 2008-06-15 08:27 am (UTC)If only you had asked me where to get a good Melbourne skirt that wasn't a size 8. Actually, I would have told you it was impossible, so good thing you didn't ask me. My favourite Melbourne-style skirt came from the Salamanca markets in Hobart after all.
So where did you find this miraculous item? And the leek and salmon roesti - this I must also investigate.
I am happy with the title "most attractive and witty Melbourne fandomite under 160cm" crown. Meredyth can (I hope) have the 160+ crown. It's not often as a grown-up you get to be the official best of anything.
And thank you again - I was so entertained by all your fabulous stories (even the gruesome injury ones) I felt certain I should have been asked to pay an admission fee somewhere along the line. First prize goes to The Prime Minister, the Car Park and the Knife. Unforgettable and beautifully told.

Date: 2008-06-15 09:01 am (UTC)Meredyth *is* tall, so that is an excellent idea. We'll need to find a slot for blindmouse eventually, but that can be sorted.
Skirts for the non-size 8 can be found at Roxanne in AOC at EXCELLENT prices, and in a range of styles catering for the short to the tall. I found about 10 items of clothing that I could happily have bought there, straight off the rack. Mostly synthetics, but the nice quality construction synthetic end of things, and with good design and detailing.
The leek and salmon roesti was from the cafe opposite the tram stop on the corner of Flinders and Spencer, quite tasty. Although I think I could modify it for a slightly better version ... I will experiment and post a recipe if I manage to nail it.
I realise that in my delirium I forgot to follow up the fact that you mentioned Mongolia. Was I hallucinating? Tell!

Date: 2008-06-16 08:34 am (UTC)Nothing to tell, really. I went there on holiday once - I can't remember what context I mentioned it in now.
The fact that I've never heard of Roxanne will illustrate for you the fact that my visits to AOC never get higher than the food court on the lower ground floor. But I will be sure to check it out.
