I am not complaining about Sydney's weather this week.

It was a mere 30 or so here today, quite thoroughly bearable. In Adelaide, the city of churches and blessed public pools, it was nearly 46 degrees Celcius. That is over 110F.

THAT IS INSANE!!

Melbourne was a balmy 42 by comparison, and neither city is scheduled to drop below 40 during the day for the next several days, nor far below that at night.

Poor old Canberra is nearly as badly off.

Feral, Mere, Jamie, Emerald, and you Adelaideans, HIDE IN THE FREEZER AISLE AT THE SUPERMARKET!!! Stop pretending it's bearable, it's completely not! Hell, come up to Sydney for the week, it's passably reasonable here.

Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY [personal profile] separatrix !

What's the latest with the air conditioner? Were you able to get the bars off?

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That is completely INSANE.

*sends you snow*

46 degrees is not funny. Jandals start melting to the footpath at 40!

I will now encourage all the Britishers to appreciate our perfectly reasonable 3-10 degrees.

46!!!!! O.o

I can't get over the crazy weather this Summer! It's usually up here in Brisbane getting some high temps, but it honestly hasn't been all that extreme... Hope that doesn't just mean it's going to be coming up here soon!

Those temperatures are just ridiculous. I hope there's a cool change coming for anyone in those places!!

Even 30 is excessive...

[identity profile] hollyxu.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's it, I'm sending you all the snow in my yard.

I haven't heard anything on the news about Australia suffering abnormal heat waves but obviously this is, uh, Day After Tomorrow-ish.

Hang in there!

[identity profile] aldehyde.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe i just read 3 consecutive posts by australians re: the insane weather! here's hoping you get some mild temperatures soon, and that we canadians get the heat instead! it just snowed continuously for the past 14 hours, and it's not going to stop for another 8. I HATE YOU, GLOBAL WARMING.

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That is gruesome! Stay cool.

Friended Shiv yesterday and we are already plotting against you.

It is presently about 2°C here in the metro New York area, and has been alternating between snow and sleet most of last night and into today. It is predicted to continue to do so into the middle of tonight, with lows around -5°C.

I'm going to cry :( All the Americans on my friends list are talking about snow days! (But, wow, 46! I feel a little bit better about Melbourne's current 33 degrees at 7.30 in the morning thing. Only not much.)

I believe we made 44 yesterday (last I looked it was 43.8). Cherry and I went with Push to see Milk at a special JoyFM screening last night - when we came out it was still well over 30 (I believe possibly still over 35 from friends' reports late last night, but I was too hot to care). We ate icecream on Lygon St, and didn't move until the shop closed up and we were the last people sitting on the last remaining table on the footpath.

The house is like a tomb, because the evaporative cooler can only do so much - so it's better to just close it off and close everything up and hide. I'll have to turn my laptop off shortly because it will just make the living room hot.

It's 7.53am and already 33.7. We're expecting at least 43 for the next two days.

I want to emigrate to the UK nao puhleeze?

This post made me sad about my life.

There is so much snow on the ground here they had to shut down my school half way through the day because the road and sidewalk conditions were so bad!

I'm just curious, is it really humid where you are as well? Like I used to live in the desert and it would get up to 110, but it felt better than in like 85 degree weather with humidity! It is most strange I think...

[identity profile] uminohikari.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
We had snow D: That is really crazy weather

[identity profile] winterthunder.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Snow in Canada, ridiculous heat in Australia, and here, in North Carolina, it's raining sideways.

We love you, world! We couldn't do anything about W, but please, give Obama a chance to make amends before you try to start paring our numbers down!

[identity profile] sporkmetender.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's pretty terrible. I think the hottest it ever gets where I live is about 40ish, but the humidity stays at least 80% for most of the summer, and the temp rarely goes below 25-30, even at night. I'll happily send you some of the 5 degree rain we got yesterday, though :)

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

[identity profile] emerald-dragon8.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
The weather is making me really sad. And hot, obviously. But also sad. It's weird: hot weather makes me sad, cold/rainy weather makes me happy. People (particularly Australians) think I'm nuts. Even my friend who loves summer thinks that it's too hot at the moment, though. I did my grocery shopping on Tuesday, and when I opened the freezer to get mini quiches, I actually sighed out loud. People were looking.

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! ♥ Hope you have a wonderful day, somewhere very very cold (your supermarket freezer suggestion sounds good). :)

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
The weather has gone crazy. It's really terrible. :(

In a much cheerier spirit, I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday!! I hope it's a good one, as well as a somewhat cool one.

*HUG*

And happy birthday to you!

I will send you an icecream cake. :)

But I like it when you complain. You make it sound amusing.

Oh, and Happy Birthday! Sorry, I'm allergic to glitter.

You know whose fault this weather is, right?

All those doubters who were just in the middle of saying "Well obviously the theory of global warming is disproved by the fact that 2008-2009 is turning out to be one of the coolest summers on rec-" and have now gone completely quiet. They jinxed us, the bastards.
