HAPPY BIRTHDAY [personal profile] hogwartsvixxxen ! I hope you have a wonderful day, and thank you for all the support and brightness you bring to the world. I hope this year is better and easier for you than last!

And now, a few links across my flist.
[livejournal.com profile] annafugazzi  has a brilliant link that shows why George Takei is an international treasure right here.
* The ever-lovely [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules  has her post of anti-wank here. It is a place of much niceness!
* Filled with joy and glee about things you have read in the HP fandom that were H/D or Next Gen? Share the happy! Funky Faynia's list of all things AS/S is here.  Marvy Maggie's list of all other Next Gen and Crossover fics is here. And Brilliant Bryoney's list of H/D recs is here. While we're on the topic, can anyone point me in the direction of the best R/S?
* That stylish young artist [livejournal.com profile] raitala  has been hosting an extensive conversation on our experiences with being new and older in fandom. The comments are fascinating! If you have a spare half hour, take a read through here.

Must dash off to work on a beta, and the apparently Giant Instructions On Writing for the lovely gh, who knows who she is.

Oh for fuck's sake. OK. First, sharpen your pencil and pull out a fresh exercise book. Now ...

(I started the actual instructions as a comment for Ms H and they have grown. It occurs to me as I read through what I have at the moment that I have TERRIBLE writing habits, and ones that I would beat out of any of my students. I blame those who taught/indulged me ;-)

I was going to outsource that bit. I hear the Indians are very very good.

D'you know what? I've never read, nor owned a copy, of the Kama Sutra. I almost can't believe that.

I did have a copy of the Joy of Sex once. The beards and hairy muffs stopped me taking it seriously.

I once made about 1263 Indians giggle by pointing at a temple carving and asking in my loud small-child voice 'Daddy? What is that man doing to that lady?'

He replied 'Helping her keep her balance, dear.'

The JoS people always gave me commune flashbacks. Bloody hippies and their razor aversions.

I sort of feel sorry for Harry, because there's no way Draco would ever be an animagus cow. D'you think male-to-female animagus transofrmations are acceptable? I'm thinking of swollen udders and the milk of love....

I went to the royal show at Stoneleigh when I was about 10, on a school trip. I remember one of the first exhibits I came across as I entered the enclosure. It was a cowshed decked out with all the newest machinery for animal husbandry. I particularly remember these awesome giveaway PVC gloves they had - they were huge, and stretched all the way to your shoulder. I merrily scarfed a load and put them in my handy carrier bag. It was only as I was leaving the display that I heard one of the staff members describing how the gloves were useful for examining cows' rectums and vaginal canals....

I know those gloves well, we used them with the horses, too. And as one of our vets was fond of saying: 'Brammers, your arms are long, thin and strong ...' Lazy fucker.

*tackles you sideways*THANKYOU!

I'm beginning to think all the good AS/S fics have been mentioned. What's more scary about this is that there is so much fic. How can all of it be bad? o.o

From: [identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com
I think there is more to come, I know that there are at least a few that have not gone up that I know of and it is only a matter of me remembering what they actually WERE. Ah memory of extreme selectiveness ... why you would think I would need to know the legislative processes of Tanzania and not the fics I really like is not something that is clear to me ...

And it's all good, luv!

From: [identity profile] faynia.livejournal.com
True. I need to figure out how to get the list up to the fest comms too. There was a lot of good fic there. 3/4 of the comments I get have been recommending the same three [livejournal.com profile] hollycomb fics (which isn't so much a problem as an annoyance XD), but I know I read fics, especially during the AS/S fest that were brilliant, but I'm positive aren't there.

....I think that's what makes everyone love you. Just saying. &hearts

Yes! and there were a few others written in the early days of me being in fandom that aren't there, either. I will go for a long walk tomorrow and they're bound to struggle out of the morass that passes for my brain ;-)

And they only love me for my mad Pub Trivia skillz!

i don't think there's a list like that for r/s (list you top 3 recent fics, etc), but there should be one. i might throw the idea out there... the so-called classics get all the love. *g* if you want some of those "classic" rec lists here's one, two and three.

now, if you like AUs, there's my own rec list. :p

i saw! that might be the most popular non-fest thing i've drawn, i'm so happy. well, second. :/ but still!

as with all classic rec lists, there's some fantastic stuff and a few eyebrow raisers (well, i like to think that all the stuff in my list is good, but ymmv), but i hope you find something you like. ;]

Do you have ANY idea how hard it is for me not to leap in to that? Even though I have written exactly one thing for that pairing (though I have a good start on my second, but I am done with posting WiPs, as I am Soooooo Sloooooow), I want to wave my hands in the air and say 'Pick me! Pick Meeee!'

But I am sitting on my hands!

I'm going to have to stalk you on the weekend, too, it appears ;-)

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool, whose rec list was recced you, is also an excellent R/S writer. She has, alas, moved on to Supernatural, but her stuff is classic. Cate does some lovely happy puppy fic. (Ridiculously cute and fluffy, but in the best way.) [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge / [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller's R/S fic is here in case you haven't already found it. Just to warn you, Laocoon's Children 3 languishes in WIP hell. Of course, all of these are fairly major, so you might already have seen them.

I'm pretty sure I have more tucked away on my PC (am currently on laptop) but my flatmate's parents are down there, and I don't fancy trying to explain Harry Potter fanfic to them. :o)

:oD Fair enough. There really isn't any hurry, I just can't help myself sometimes.

I hate it when work saps your will to live. Not that that has happened to me lately. >.> I hope Remus and Sirius can help rejuvenate you over the weekend. *rereads sentence* That may have come out a little wrong.

Remuslives23 writes some nice Remus/Sirius. You may know her stuff, but in case not.

'It Was Only a Kiss' - Marauders-era start of r/ship, lots of nice UST, then it gets non-Ud.

Funny drabble - 'Why Sirius Black Should Never Be Allowed Near A Computer'

Her current WIP 'Muse' is AU-muggle R/S - Remus as artist, Sirius as model.

Oh, and another one is Esinde Nayrall (red_squared in LJ) who's a huge Sirius fan. Her long fic is darker and more angsty. If you're not feeling so much like the happy stuff! Again Marauders, but more complex and moody.
