My gift fic at the AS/S fest posted, and it's SO ME! Politics and journalism, my friends, politics and journalism.

Follow the link, nice and short, delicious, delightful and delovely little kick to the end. I have my Suspicions As To The Author, and will be resisting the urge to poke Bryoney until she squeals like an adorable little miniature pig. Not that she looks like one, aside from the huge soulful eyes. But she does squeal like one, my friends, oh yes, she does.

I keep telling people to check out this fest, there's an awful lot of good stuff! Check out By the Book, if you haven't already, too, it's fabulous, as is Potter Shaped Malfoy.

Postings end in a few days, and I am mightily tempted to play the guess my fic game, except I suspect that I am depressingly obvious.

ETA 5 degrees C overnight here, [personal profile] pingrid! Actual winter! and about 9 degrees at 4pm today. Okay, so not winter on the scale of Oslo, or Glasgow, or even Christchurch, but I could have done with a coat rather than the lightweight jackets that are my Sydney staples!

Ah, yes, while I still snicker at the concept that anything with night temperatures on the plus side of zero could be considered actual winter, I will gladly agree that it's far, far too cold and send you heaps sympathy. See? I'm Reformed and Supportive! ;) I'd send you traditional knitwear to keep you warm if it wasn't so hideous, or so impossible to come by in summer.

As for guessing your fic, I do feel confident that my headwear is safe. Looking forward to the reveals, though, as I'm clueless about the rest - not that I've read them all yet; far from it. :/

Ah. Hmmm. Yes ...

Quite the weather we're having!

I have a lovely knitting book of traditional Scandinavian patterns, you know! But the good thing about a Sydney cold snap is you can wait a fortnight and it will be gone for the next three years. Waiting for the 45 deg C summer days to balance this out, now.

Thanks for the Reformed Support! It was luverly!

45 degrees is too much for me, at least if I'm required to actually do anything other than sit in the shade and read and sweat, with the option of submerging in water at irregular intervals. We're at around 30 now, which is perfect, mmmmmmm!

I'll admit to a penchant for woolen socks in traditional patterns, but that's as far as it goes. Give me something plain and black to keep me warm and I'm happy. Or pretentious and black if I'm feeling sentimental.

45 is too much for me, too! Ah, 30, now there's a proper summer for you!

5 degrees C over night????? That's not winter, hon.

::lives in Canada::

That's late spring... early fall... camping weather!

Oh! I haven't read By the Book yet!

I know, I know, but as I say to pingrid, the houses here are all designed to deal with 45 deg C summers. So every aspect of the design is planned to shed heat as quickly as possible. Our blankies are thin and cotton, and out coats are unlined, and, in my case, natty little jackets for the most part.

So after a few years of faffing around in Sydney you give away all of your warm things, because they are worm for two days a year when you visit Melbourne and there is an Antarctic wind, and then all of a sudden there's a cold snap, which may be feeble by actual cold snap standards, but which is really quite chilly when you have what are essentially slightly long summer clothes with sleet and a slightly further from Antarctica Antarctic wind ;-)

I have not been to Canada, but I have been to Siberia. I preferred unpowered communes in Wales.

I understand about the houses. We have relatives in italy and they need to sleep with hats and mits on because those stone houses just don't keep any heat.

I'd rather be here in the winter and properly dressed and sitting in front on my fireplace :D

Yes! Exactly! Though I should be used to it because my grandparents' place in Sussex was the same. I grew soft, I tell you!

I would rather be in a Canadian interior, but not exterior, you chaps have it grim! A friend of mine was talking to Canadian pilgrims the other week, the refused to believe it was winter. Admittedly that week was more 12-20 deg C ;-)

Ach! *is affronted* I squeal like a little girl in PIGTAILS maybe but honestly! lol

I'm so glad you liked your fic - your mystery author was quite diligent in her efforts to come up with something you'd like. I think this one was her fourth or fifth attempt. You should spill though - I want to know who you think it was! I don't think you'll guess right, though. *smirks*

I heard about the hail in Australia on the news this morning. In an odd fit of compassion, I will not mock you. Cold is no fun if you're not used to it. *cuddles you for warmth*

I think my one fic is pretty obvious as a Bryoney special - follows all the "rules" of a Bryoney fic. The other one, I'm not so sure if people know it's me or not. I think there's one major detail that's a dead giveaway but we'll see...

Oh! I want reveals now!!!

I was used to it, then I moved here in the middle of the greatest drought and series of heatwaves ever. For the first few winters I scampered about in minidresses laughing gaily. Then I started to feel it was a bit nippy now and then. A few years ago I bought some wool skirts. This year I am seriously looking for an overcoat ;-)

SOFT!

I know of your squealing, missy, you cannot fool me with your protestations of innocence! And I need to think a bit more before I commit anything to print. But do pass on my squeefulness. When are reveals, anyway?

Anyway, I think early August for reveals? Stupid anony fests! *grouses*

Well, you are terribly popular, should we discuss hairstyles now or go straight to friendship bracelets? (tragically, I can manage about eight different genres of narrow ware weaving: I should get a life.)

That's only a week away, easy!

Mmm yes, bracelets for sure. And then we can decide what colours we'll wear tomorrow and who gets to sit with us at lunch! Also, I saw this today and thought it would make you laugh.

Even the "made in the USA" product stamp was too funny - where else would you find an abstinence thong BUT in the States? Anyway, I'm hoping against hope that the whole thing is meant to be ironic.

I'll see your 5 and raise you FROST! In Melbourne... sheesh! You'd think I was back in Canberra. I suspect I'm am leaving at exactly the right time to get exactly the same weather in the UK. Yaye!

We had 'soft hail', which looked an awful lot like snow, in Linfield the other day.

You're off next month, aren't you? It'll be fine. Ridiculously warm at the moment by all accounts, and humid to boot.

I FORGOT TO HIT POST FOR THIS! (Is stoopid)

It's known in polite circles as sago snow. Then again, you could freeze alcohol on some of the women's arses in Lindfield.

I'm off like a bucket of prawns in the sun. I don't do humid - I left Qld to not do humid. So they can just suck it up and stop it in good time, thank you very much.

Give it a few months, it was 45°C here the other New Year's Day. It was horrible.

Today was quite lovely, 8-18 and clear blue skies.
